Welcome to Chapelfield PTO’s One School, One Book and Readathon!!
What is One School, One Book?
This is a shared reading experience for our whole school community, including all students, teachers, staff, and families. This gives all of us an opportunity to read the same book, talk about it, and share the joy of reading.
Our PTO has generously purchased a copy of the book for every student and staff member at Chapelfield through funds raised during the Readathon.
What do families need to do?
Each student received a bag with a copy of the book, this Welcome Letter, a Nightly Reading Calendar, a set of Chapter Questions, and a bookmark.
READ - Please read the assigned chapters each evening with your student. This can be done by reading to your student, taking turns reading paragraphs/pages, listening to your student read, or having your student read independently and then talking with your student about the chapter. You can even listen to Chapelfield staff members read each chapter on the website shown below.
TALK - Talk about the chapter… What happened? What questions or predictions do you have? What did you learn? How are the characters feeling? What did you like about the chapter? You can also use the OPTIONAL Family Book Club Guide on the back of this letter to talk about the book.
QUESTIONS - Answer the question for that night’s chapters. Then, turn in the questions on the date for each page. Students will receive a small prize for each page they turn in.
READING LOG - Record the total number of minutes of reading on the Readthon Reading Log.
SHARE THE JOY OF READING - Most importantly, have fun as you share this reading experience together!
If you have any questions, please reach out to your student’s teacher or to
Mrs. Long at longj@gjps.org.
