Chapelfield’s One School, One Book!!
Life According Og the Frog by Betty G. Birney
Today your student participated in the kickoff for Chapelfield’s One School, One Book by watching a video from Og that introduced this program. Each student received a bag with a copy of the book, this Welcome Letter, a Nightly Reading Calendar, an Optional Project Ideas paper, and a set of Chapter Questions.
What is One School, One Book?
This is a shared reading experience for our whole school community, including all students, teachers, staff, and families. This gives all of us an opportunity to read the same book, talk about it, and share the joy of reading. Our PTO has generously purchased a copy of the book for every student and staff member at Chapelfield!!
What do families need to do?
READ - Please read the assigned chapter each evening with your student. This can be done by reading to your student, taking turns reading paragraphs/pages, listening to your student read, or having your student read independently and then talking with your student about the chapter. You can even listen to Chapelfield staff members read each chapter on the website shown below.
TALK - Talk about the chapter… What happened? What questions or predictions do you have? What did you learn? How are the characters feeling? What did you like about the chapter?
QUESTIONS - Answer the question for that chapter. Then, turn in the questions on the date for each page. Students will receive a small prize for each page they turn in.
OPTIONAL PROJECT - If you would like to extend your thinking with the book, complete an optional project. Students can work on these independently or with their families. All projects will be displayed for our Chapelfield community to view. Students who complete a project will participate in a Popsicle Party with extra recess!
SHARE THE JOY OF READING - Most importantly, have fun as you share this reading experience together!
If you have any questions, please reach out to your student’s teacher or to Mrs. Long at longj@gjps.org.
