Welcome to 9th Grade Ancient Literature!
This Week:
Welcome back to school! This week we will be going over the syllabus with emphasis on expectations and procedures. Further, we will also be reflecting and discussing our summer reading: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.
We will spend roughly the first 10 weeks of the Fall semester reading Homer's The Iliad. During this 10-week period, we will be highlighting and discussing the following common themes:
Emotion vs. intellect
Hubris vs. Kleos
The role of the gods in the Ancient world
Attributes of a good hero/leader.
Fun Fact! The word Iliad comes from the Greek phrase Ilias Poiesis meaning "poem of Ilion", with Ilion being the Greek name for the ancient city of Troy.
