About Me

Dr. Ajay Kumar Mandava is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical, Electronics & Communication Engineering at GITAM (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru Campus, and currently serves as the Deputy Director, Research & Development Cell. He is also the GITAM CU Research Collaboration Lead, and Board of Studies (BoS) Co-Chair for the EECE department. Dr. Ajay earned his Ph.D. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), USA (2013), after completing his M.S. in Electrical & Computer Engineering (2009) from UNLV and B.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, India. Prior to joining GITAM in 2015, he worked as a Senior Software Engineer (R&D Consultant) at Bally Technologies, Inc., USA, and as a Research Assistant at the Desert Research Institute (DRI), USA. 

He has been actively involved in several national and international sponsored research projects, including funded projects from NASA EpSCOR, NSF, DOE, American Cancer Society, DRDO and IITTNiF Technology Development covering areas such as planetary exploration, cooperative UAV systems, medical image analysis, nuclear material detection, cargo inspection, rhizosphere imaging using X-ray microtomography, unmanned autonomous vehicle applications and marine ecosystem monitoring. 

At GITAM, Dr. Ajay has held multiple academic leadership roles, including Head of the Department (In-charge), Departmental Research Committee Chair, Institute Research Coordinator, and Assistant Principal, School of Technology. He has received several recognitions, notably the Best College Dissertation Award (UNLV, 2013) and the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award (2010–2011), and is a member of prestigious honor societies such as Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi, and Golden Key.
