Happy 22-23 School Year!

I'm so happy to have everyone back in the studio this year! It was fun to show off the studio over the last few weeks for some who have not seen it over the summer, some who have not seen it for the year, and some who have never stepped foot in our turquoise and green space. We are starting the year learning routines for our time together, expectations for our space, and things while creating four school-wide projects. One for in the studio, one for our bulletin boards, one for the library plus pictures for the bulletin boards, and one for outside of the school. My hopes and dreams for this year are to help students express themselves through the process of making art. I will hold the space where students are comfortable, safe, and respected to create for their best selves. Every person has their personal best and I am here to help whoever is willing to seek that with passion and effort. I am taking the steps to run all my classes as an open studio with the principles of Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) as my preferred teaching method. This essentially means that I will do mini-lessons to introduce new skills, media, or artists of interest for the first 5-10 minutes then the students will find their creative path. Maybe your student is really interested in painting, weaving, or drawing by giving them time to achieve their own creative agendas instead of mine they will grow more confident and develop a true passion for the arts. I think of myself as the cheerleader of their awesomeness.
