Tangaroa - God of the Sea

Tangaroa is the deity of the kaimoana and the ocean. He is the son of Ranginui and Papatuanuku. Tangaroa led our ancestors to Aotearoa with the ocean, lakes, and rivers. Fishermen would pray to Tangaroa for good luck to get a good catch and blessed their food afterwards. If Tangaroa was angry, the waves would crash hard and be very tall. But when Tangaroa was happy, the ocean would calm and soft.

Tangaroa loved the ocean, the kaimoana, and all it's creatures. Sadly, Tangaroa was banished to the ocean by Tawhirimatea for the separation of Rangi and Papa.
