Tangaroa - God of the Sea

This is a summary of what I have learnt about Tangaroa.

When Ranginui and Papatūānuku where separated, Tāwhirimātea became angry at Tangaroa, so Tangaroa dived into the ocean to get away from Tāwhirimātea anger. Luckily, Tangaroa was made the deity of the ocean.Tangaroa's son Punga had two kids Ikatere, and Tū-te-wehiwehi.Ikatere was made the ancestor of fish that live in saltwater. But Tū-te-wehiwehi was made the ancestor of the reptiles and freshwater fish. Before sailors set of they made offering to tangaroa for a safe passage because humans are land creatures from the realm of Tāne-Mahuta. The sea is a great source of food and life.
