Theatre I - Introduction to Theatre (7th Grade)
In this year-long course, students explore the exciting world of theatre by acting, moving, creating characters, and telling stories on stage. Students will learn improvisation, pantomime, basic script writing, and theatre history while building confidence, creativity, and teamwork skills. Theatre vocabulary and literacy skills are reinforced through fun, interactive activities and performances.
Theatre II - Intermediate Drama (8th Grade) No pre-requisite
This year-long course builds on the skills learned in Theatre I and challenges students to grow as performers and creators. Students will explore voice, movement, imagination, and character development while learning about stage production, accents, script writing, stage makeup, improvisation, and pantomime. Through group projects and individual performances, students will gain confidence, teamwork skills, and a deeper understanding of theatre.
Unified Theatre
Unified Theatre is an inclusive daily drama course that provides students with physical and/or cognitive disabilities the opportunity to learn alongside their general education peers in a supportive, collaborative theatre environment. The course introduces students to the basic elements and principles of theatre through hands-on, student-centered activities.
Students will focus on developing communication skills, stage movement, and expressive speaking through both verbal and nonverbal techniques. Emphasis is placed on creativity, cooperation, confidence-building, and mutual respect as students work together to create and perform theatrical experiences.
Unified Theatre promotes social connection, empathy, and teamwork while allowing all students to participate meaningfully in the theatrical process.
This full-year advanced course is designed for students who have demonstrated proficiency in Theatre I and Theatre II and are prepared to commit to an elevated level of performance. The course emphasizes advanced acting and performance techniques while fostering leadership, collaboration, and ensemble-based work.
Students will refine skills in voice, movement, and character analysis while engaging in script writing, stage accents, and technical aspects of theatre production. Units of study include advanced pantomime, improvisation, performance techniques, and student directing. Emphasis is placed on both individual artistry and group responsibility within a theatre company structure.
Participation in required after-school rehearsals and performances is a core component of the course, providing students with authentic production experience and professional-level expectations.
