This class is designed for students who played a Band or String instrument in 5th Grade but want to switch instruments for 6th Grade. This class will provide the foundation skills needed to be successful in the Band class and will function similar to the Beginning Band class but will move much quicker as students already have a foundation for performing in Band or Strings and simply need to transfer this knowledge to a new instrument. This class is not intended for students who have not played a Band or Strings instrument prior. Students who did not play a Band or Strings instrument in 5th grade should sign up for the Beginning Band class.Â
** Students enrolling in the "Switch" Band class should discuss this with their current Band or Strings teacher prior to enrolling. **
** Students switching from Alto Saxophone to Tenor Saxophone or Clarinet to Bass Clarinet should not sign up for this class and should instead sign up for the Intermediate Band class. **

What will we learn in this class?
In this class we will establish the critical foundation skills needed for your student to be successful on their instrument. This includes:
Instrument assembly and maintenance
Correct air control and breathing for Band
Embouchure and sound production
Tonguing
Hand position and posture
Reading and performing whole, half note, quarter note, whole rest, half rest, and quarter rest rhythms.
Reading and performing the first 8-12 notes on your student's instrument
Three, five, and six note songs in unison
Simple duets
Simple trios
Introductory full ensemble music (depending upon the instrumentation of the class)
