Hello! 

My name is, Karina Brungardt, and I am the Social Worker for the Junior High here at Canyon Valley School. I have been working in the social work field for over eleven years. My experience has been working with children, adolescents, and families from behavioral health to rehabilitative programs in Colorado and Arizona.

My goal at Canyon is to provide quality support to our students and families and teach life skills to prepare our students for a successful future. I have an open door policy so students, families, and staff can drop in at any time. Some of the resources I can provide are one-on-one sessions with students, referrals to community programs, referrals for behavioral health needs, and advocating for our students and families.

It is a privilege to have the opportunity to work with the students and families here at Canyon Valley School this year. Parents, please feel free to email or call me if you have any questions.

The School Social Worker is instrumental in supporting the District’s mission for student success, while collaborating with the home, school, and the community to do so.

For Students:

• Advocate for student’s needs

• Crisis Intervention

• Assist with problem solving and coping skills

• Supporting students in the educational setting

• Setting goals, handling frustration, positive thinking, making friends, and being a leader.  

For Family/Community:

• Obtain and coordinate community resources

• Serve as the link between home and school

• Provide resources and information on community services/agencies

What is Social/Emotional Learning?

• Social-emotional learning (SEL) is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success. People with strong social-emotional skills are better able to cope with everyday challenges and benefit academically, professionally, and socially. From effective problem-solving to self-discipline, from impulse control to emotion management and more. SEL provides a foundation for positive, long-term effects on kids, adults, and communities.
