VA100 Art & Design I (1 Credit) Prerequisite: none.
This course will introduce students to the basic elements and principles of design. Students will learn drawing techniques emphasizing line, positive/negative space, perspective, value, texture, lettering, and portrait proportion by utilizing black and white media. Students will also explore studies in color and advanced drawing and painting techniques.
VA103 Art & Design II - Drawing (1 Credit): Prerequisite: Art & Design I
This course will satisfy one fine arts credit for Arizona university entrance requirements. This course will provide a comprehensive understanding, appreciation, and exploration of drawing, using both wet and dry media in perspective, landscape, portrait, still life, and figure drawing. Historical aspects, contemporary trends, and art criticism will be studied.

Art & Design II - Painting (1 Credit): Prerequisite: Art & Design II – AKA Advanced Painting (Art 3)
This advanced course satisfies one fine arts credit for any Arizona university entrance requirements and is designed for students ready to take their art to the next level. You'll explore the tools, techniques, and processes of watercolor, acrylic, oil, and other painting media.
Through the study of historical and contemporary artists, you’ll gain insight into different styles, subject matter, and composition. What sets this course apart is its focus on student-driven work —you’ll develop your ideas through independent projects guided by student-teacher contracts.
Students dive into thematic development, in-depth media exploration, and creative problem-solving while refining their artistic voice. This is your space to experiment, grow, and create meaningful art that reflects who you are

AP Studio Art 2D design/Art Drawing/Painting (1 Credit): Prerequisite: Art & Design II - Painting or application and approval.
This course will focus on portfolio submission to the College Board for 2-D Design or Drawing. Students will explore advanced techniques and materials, media exploration, building concepts, and thematic development. The focus of this class will be on 2-D Design with the use of a variety of materials, emphasizing drawing and painting. This course is designed to prepare students to successfully submit a portfolio for Advanced Placement in May (testing fee applies). Your AP scores could earn you college credit or advanced placement (meaning you could skip certain courses in college).
