Ms. Draney

• I have been a social worker in the district for seven years. Previous to being a social worker, I worked as a music therapist.

• I am currently a social worker at Canyon Rim Elementary and Highland Junior High.

• I believe every student wants to succeed and I feel it is my role to empower them with tools to manage their emotions, build their confidence, and enhance their resiliency.

• Prevention related activities : Students have the opportunity to participate in individual support, classroom presentations and school wide activities. The services may focus on emotional regulation, life skills training, problem solving skills, bullying prevention, substance and tobacco prevention, grief management, and family transitions. I also teach the Second Step Curriculum which focuses on problem solving, communication, emotional regulation and friendship skills.

• School Wide services: Attendance and tardies, Child Study Team to assist in identifying students at risk, PBIS team member to help improve school atmosphere and promote positive behaviors, teacher consultations and support, 6th grade transition specialist.

• Community resources for parents, ie: Counseling referrals, housing resources, food boxes, utility assistance, discount reading glasses, etc. I also serve as the homeless liaison on our campus in coordination with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act.

• Behavioral Health Team: Provide annual training for students and staff regarding bullying, suicide and depression prevention. Meeting regularly to discuss needs of students and levels of risk.
