Angelo Martins was born in Connecticut, then moved to Arizona after graduating from high school. Growing up, he was always drawn to all things art; participating in musical theater, drawing and painting (submitting several art pieces into art shows and competitions), and leading an arts and crafts class at a local Boys and Girls Club. He attended Arizona State University, where he originally intended to study art. Angelo began as a painter, but later discovered he had a knack and new love for ceramics, and spent an incredible number of hours at a pottery wheel.
After just two years, Angelo put a hold on attending classes to work full-time at the Phoenix Zoo as a lead presenter in their education department. If you were a kid (or adult) in the late 90’s to early 2000’s and attended a Phoenix Zoo Night Camp, Camp Zoo, birthday party, company event, or Animal Encounter presentation, it is very likely that Angelo was either the guy on stage, or the guy behind the scenes making it all come together.
Angelo inevitably left the zoo to follow an old dream. He returned to ASU, this time to enter and complete ASU’s teaching program.
Angelo joined the Gilbert Public Schools family in 2001. He has worked mainly in intermediate grades, but is very excited about his new adventure in art education. He looks forward to continuing the art traditions of our great d, but is also eager to implement some new ideas.
