Here's the latest (UPDATED 2-21-25)
Kinder - A great start! Welcome to Pioneer/Harris! We've already learned our first 3 songs, Hello Everybody, Built My Lady (a Fine Brick House), and Music Rules! After exploring space and locomotor movement, Kinders played a scarf game showing the movement of music, and then use them to be superheroes! We've all earned awards for taking care of the equipment and being responsible with ours and other's personal space.
1st grade - First grade has been recalling songs from last year, like The Stinky Pirates, and Superheroes! We will be using these and other songs from last year for our music program this year in February!
2nd grade - 2nd grade is starting out with steady beat and meter perception. These will be very important when we begin learning instrument parts for our program this year in December!
3rd grade - #rd graders have already been reading music note durations and dynamics markings! We will prepare all year for reading notation as we get ready to play recorders in 4th grade next year!
4th grade - We've begun work on our Veteran's Day program. Students got to see a real military ceremony, The Memorial at Arlington, and have already tried to memorize the 50 United States names in alphabetical order! The Veteran's Day program will have a color guard from Gilbert High School JROTC, student trumpet players to play TAPS, and a song in sign language by the Kindergarteners, not to mention solo singers who can try out for 4 solos, starting in October.
5th grade - We've begun reading the notes of the treble staff, and we have already learned a complete 8 measure melody, and played it on Tone Bars as a class!
6th grade - We are reviewing the notes of the staff, and we have played a full 8 measure melody using scale recognition on Tone Bars as a class.
