Good to Know

Assured Admission

Students may earn admission to Arizona through the Assured Admission process if they attend a regionally accredited high school, rank in the top 25 percent of their graduating class, and have no coursework deficiencies as detailed by the Arizona Board of Regents or earn an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher in their core coursework. You can view a detailed list of the course requirements on our ABOR Course Competencies page.

All students who do not meet the above requirements for Assured Admission will be evaluated through our Comprehensive Review Process. You can view more details about Comprehensive Review on our Applicant Review Process page.

New look for our Counselor Resource Website!

If you have spent any time on our Admissions website, you might have noticed a new, fresh look! Our goal with the new look was to offer students, parents and counselors more information about Arizona in an easier, cleaner format. With our new look, we have also made some updates to the Counselor Resource website, where you can find more specific information about Arizona updates, application resources and upcoming events!

SMU

1. SMU remains temporary test-optional for Fall 2022. All applicants are automatically considered for a variety of merit-based scholarships regardless of test submission status. If students choose to submit test scores, SMU allows self-reported scores to be submitted in the application process.

2. In prior years, SMU hosted four different applications for admission. This year, we decided to retire our SMU application and funnel students to the three remaining platforms in the following bullet point.

3. Your students' application fees will be waived if they apply by Monday, October 18, 2021! To use this fee waiver, your students would need to determine their application deadline and method and apply using any of our three applications. They can follow these directions depending on their application type:

  • The Common Application – select fee waiver code TW1300 to answer the question “Do you intend to use one of these school-specific fee waivers?” under SMU’s member questions tab.

  • The MyCoalition Application – on the payment page use fee waiver codes TW1300 or PR17147.

  • ApplyTexas – when prompted for payment method, select "Request for fee waiver."

Janet, we look forward to reviewing your students' applications! If you have any questions, please connect with your school's admission counselor at smu.edu/counselor.

The best way to satisfy your curiosity about the college you’re considering is to take a tour and see how it feels to actually be on campus.

While it’s always best to visit in-person, virtual tours have been greatly expanded – especially recently – and can now provide many of the same critical details that you can get from being there yourself.

No matter which method is preferable for you, it’s worth the time to ensure the school you’re looking at will be the best fit.

At Embry-Riddle, we offer in-person tours or virtual visits using leading-edge technology, and we also have this handy guide to help you get the most out of your experience.

Hello!

The end of a crazy year is starting to come to a close. I appreciate all of your efforts in helping me meet with students this year. It has been a pretty difficult year for all of us, so thank you for everything you’ve done!

I am thrilled to share with you some exciting news on how Snow College will be helping students for the Fall 2021 semester. We know that many students have been feeling extra stressed, especially about money. And at Snow College, the students are our top priority. That is why, Snow College is offering up to 14 FREE credit hours to all FAFSA eligible students. New and returning students will only pay for their first six credits, and we will cover the cost for the next 14. The funding for this comes from our student portion of HERRF funding (AKA Cares funding) and ARPA funding from the State. We care about the educational goals and dreams for our students and, we hope we can make a difference!

Below is more information that we are hoping you will help share with your students and parents!

Who qualifies? ALL Snow College students that are eligible for FAFSA, even if they don’t qualify for a pell grant!

    • International students although are not eligible to fill out FAFSA, are still eligible to receive these funds.

    • Unfortunately, because this is federal money DACA students do not fit the guidelines to receive this award.

What do the students need to do? Complete the FAFSA! Students MUST complete the FAFSA and accept the award before classes begin August 30, 2021.

What about scholarships/financial aid? If a student has any awarded scholarships or financial aid, those awards can be used to cover your portion of tuition.

The priority deadline for the FAFSA is June 1st to ensure you have everything in place for Fall semester. If you have any questions about this offer or if you need help filling out your FAFSA, please contact the Financial Aid office.

https://snow.edu/offices/finaid/financial-aid.html

For example:

Ashley is an incoming Freshman that has completed her FAFSA, her tuition will be reduced to $1,208 once the award is accepted in BadgerWeb.

Ashley also has the Dean’s Academic Award, which is a 50% tuition waiver. After accepting the academic scholarship, she now owes $604. If Ashley does not qualify for additional financial aid, she can expect to pay $604 for the Fall 2021 semester. If Ashley is eligible for a $3,000 pell grant - $604 will be taken out for tuition, about $200 will be taken out for student fees, and Ashley will be refunded about $2,200 that can be used towards housing and books.

We have posted a video about this announcement on our Admissions Instagram Page: @beabadger. Please feel free to share it on your High Schools Social Media accounts.

We are very excited about this new announcement! Please do not hesitate if you or a student has questions or concerns about this announcement or getting ready for Snow.

Gallaudet University

Office of Undergraduate Admissions

Greetings!

We are excited to announce that we will be welcoming students on campus this fall! Gallaudet has been planning in earnest for the return of our students, faculty and staff to the campus. Our students thrive in visually-oriented surroundings, and the entire Gallaudet campus community values face-to-face learning and an ASL-vibrant environment. Personal connections are a very important part of the Gallaudet experience.

Over the past year, we have worked tirelessly to create a safe environment for learning -- one that will benefit everyone now and post-pandemic. We have designed safer classrooms, residential spaces, and common areas. We have made our faculty and staff offices more safe for everyone -- our students, our employees, and the public. There are protocols in place for everyone entering and living on campus, including wearing masks, hand-washing, social distancing, app-based health screenings, mandatory flu shots, and frequent COVID-19 testing.

If your student is accepted and decides to enroll, classes will begin August 30. New Student Orientation for new degree-seeking undergraduate students who will study on campus will begin on August 16. More information will be shared as soon as they are available.

Fall dates at a glance

  • June 1: Business Registration opens

  • July 26: JumpStart Programs begin

  • August 16: New Student Orientation begins

  • August 30: Classes begin

Expect to hear from us over the coming weeks. We will send updates regularly as details become available. We know you are eager to learn more and to prepare for your students' Gallaudet experience!

Please contact the Admissions Office with any questions.

As we all have learned over the last year, plans and dates are subject to change based on health guidelines, DC Health, and CDC. While we expect to return to campus, and are planning for a full re-opening, we are also prepared to pivot quickly in response to any changes.

Ready to hear about all that Maine Maritime has to offer from academics to athletics to student life? Join us on Saturday, April 3 from 2 to 6pm EDT for our Virtual Open house!

Check out the event page to start charting out which sessions you want to attend! On the event page you can even pre-submit questions to our panelists and students so we can be sure to answer your question live on April, 3rd! Between 3 live stages, there is sure to be something for everyone! Don't worry, if you miss something, everything will be recorded to watch at a later date.

To register for the event and pre-submit questions to our faculty, student and staff panelists click below!

Stay safe, and we look forward to connecting with you soon. Please reach out with any questions you may have!

What Makes UAT Graduates Great

UAT offers a flexible learning methodology that provides real project experience to all our students. These occur in collaborative, year-long teams and in ongoing, rapid-fire jams, challenges and competitions.

Why is this important to your future goals?

  • You won't spend your time face-down in a book and researching; you will spend your time becoming proficient in technology and will learn while working in varied arenas including: team production settings, rapid-fire jams, internal and external challenge and competitions... All of which create an employable graduate that people and organizations value.

  • Upon graduation, you will have completed a technology innovation project. To graduate you must create a working proof of concept of something that has never been done before. UAT provides you the opportunity, skills and tools necessary to innovate.

  • You will graduate having real world working experience. You will complete an internship, work on broader community projects and develop mentor-based relationships with industry professionals who will support you through your career... Graduate with workforce experience, prepared and confident.

  • You will graduate with demonstrated mastery of your degree by proving to faculty that your portfolio of work exceeds all program objectives and desired outcomes. Graduate knowing you have mastered the skills needed to succeed in your technology field.

Become part of the UAT family. Graduate more prepared for your future.

NEED TO KNOW, GOOD TO KNOW

February updates from

the University of Arizona

From all of us at the University of Arizona, we want you to know we LOVE partnering with you! We’d like to share some Need to Know and Good to Know updates for Arizona and the weeks ahead.

Need to Know

FASFA Priority Date Approaching - March 1

The University of Arizona’s priority filing date to submit the FAFSA is March 1, 2021. Students are not required to apply by the priority filing date, but it is highly recommended due to the limited availability of need-based funds such as grants, Pell Pledge Grant, and Federal Work Study. The priority filing date does not affect eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant or Federal Direct Loans or many merit scholarships.

Net Price Calculator

The University of Arizona Net Price Calculator will give students and families an idea of how much aid they could qualify for, and is a great tool to help guide future Wildcats. We offer a full array of financial aid options to help students pay for their education, and this great tool is now updated for Fall 2021 students! As always, students can get the most accurate picture of their cost of attendance by applying for admission and submitting their FAFSA, but to get an estimate, encourage students to check out: https://arizona.studentaidcalculator.com/.

Good to Know

Orientation Spots Filling Up Fast!

As students work to complete their steps to enroll in the Next Steps Center, be aware that our New Student Orientation and on-campus Housing spots are filling up fast! All Summer 2021 New Student Orientation sessions will be held digitally, so students, families and supporters can plan ahead now. Students will need to complete flagged items in the “Getting Started” section first before checking out available dates for New Student Orientation or completing their Housing application, and can reach out to their Admissions Counselor to answer any questions regarding their Next Steps.

Upcoming Events

Save the Dates

Thanks for all your help in making the Fall semester Tri-University events a success! We were thrilled to be able to connect with thousands of students from across the state. As each of the three public universities continue to offer our individual virtual visits and events, we want to also continue to work together to ensure students find their best college fit. You and your students can review past sessions on the Tri-University website, and keep an eye out for registration for our Spring events:

  • Tri-University: Preparing for College - Focused on grades 9 - 11

    • March 21 - April 3

    • Seniors still making their college decision are welcome to attend!

  • Tri-University: Transfer Week - geared to current and future community college students

Penn State's FAFSA recommended submission date is approaching. Don't let your students miss the opportunity to receive financial aid.

The 2021-2022 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available. This is the only form students need to submit to apply for most financial aid at Penn State.

Please encourage your students who have applied or are planning to apply to Penn State to submit their FAFSA by December 1, 2020 to receive maximum consideration for financial aid. Penn State's Federal School Code is 003329. We encourage students to submit the FAFSA regardless of whether they believe they are eligible for need-based aid.

Notifications of student aid awards will be e-mailed beginning in February to admitted students who complete the FAFSA by December 1. The package will include all types of aid for which a student qualifies — including loans, grants, scholarships, and work-study.

Additional information about submitting the FAFSA is available on the Office of Student Aid website.

Girls Get IT

What is Girls Get IT 2020? An exciting and dynamic virtual event (delivered via Zoom) on November 13, 2020 (8:30 am - 1:00pm) geared toward informing high school junior and senior (primarily females, although everyone is welcome) students about the vast educational and professional pathways available to them in the field of Information Technology (IT).

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics recently reported that jobs within the IT sector are projected to continue growing by upwards of 11% in the next 10 years (data updated 9/1/2020 - after Covid-19 disrupted the US' labor market in general) suggesting the possibilities are endless for students thinking about what they want to do after they graduate from high school! A path in IT could be the answer.

Through a series of interactive breakout sessions, discussions with a panel of experts already working in the field and participating in a facilitated networking/mentoring exercise with female IT professionals, this day promises to be a fun journey of discovery for everyone.

This FREE event is a project of the Maricopa IT Institute, East Valley and is co-hosted by the East Valley Maricopa Community Colleges (Mesa, Chandler-Gilbert and Scottsdale).

An informational flier is attached with additional details.

To learn more and to register today, go to: https://www.scottsdalecc.edu/community/girls-get-it

Registration is available on a first come, first served basis and closes on October 30, 2020.
