When a child comes for their one on one evaluation appointment, all areas of development are looked at, regardless if there are any concerns or not, through a Comprehensive Developmental Assessment. The following are the areas of development are assessed:
Receptive Language - understanding what is being said
Expressive Language - how a child expresses wants and needs
Articulation - how well a child produces speech sounds
Pragmatics - how a child interacts with others
This area focuses on problem solving, thinking skills, general knowledge, and pre-academic skills such as counting and identifying colors at an appropriate age level. It also looks at how your child plays and interacts with toys.
This includes the ability to interact with other children and adults. This area also includes coping strategies, flexibility, paying attention, transitioning, and the ability to express feelings.
This looks at your child's ability to function independently in all aspects of their environment, such as feeding, dressing, grooming, being cautious around potential danger, etc.
This area is divided into two sub-categories:
FINE MOTOR: this area includes small motor skills, such as handling small toys, opening containers, and using markers and scissors.
GROSS MOTOR: this area includes large motor skills, such as walking, climbing, and jumping.
