SAT
It’s important to register for the SAT as soon as possible. That way, if a test date is canceled after you register, you will have access to the latest information from the College Board and have time to reschedule your test. Here are some tips for registering for the SAT.
Register online: Registering on the College Board website is the fastest and easiest way to register. From your online account, you can print your admission ticket, make changes to your registration, and view your scores as soon as they are available.
Decide if you want to receive mail from colleges: If you enroll in College Board's Student Search Service, you'll receive mail from colleges looking to recruit students, as well as from scholarship providers and test prep companies.
Pay your fees or apply for a fee waiver: Fees for the 2023-2024 SAT are $60. Fees include the cost of sending your scores to up to four colleges (additional colleges are $12 each). For a complete list of fees, as well as more information about registration, fee waivers, and the test itself, visit College Board.
Submit a photo: You must submit a photo of yourself with your SAT registration. You'll find the complete photo submission guidelines on the College Board website. If your photo doesn't meet the requirements, you may not be allowed to test.
There are only a few things you really need to bring on test day and a lot of things you'll be better off leaving at home. Prepare to bring the right things with this list:
Your fully charged testing device with the Bluebook™ application installed and exam setup completed (see detailed device requirements).
Your up-to-date admission ticket from the Bluebook app. Bringing a printed ticket is preferred, and you can access the ticket after completing exam setup (available starting 5 days before the test).
Acceptable photo ID.
Pencils or pens for scratch work.
Your College Board username and password.
An acceptable calculator for use on the Math section of the test (there will be an embedded graphing calculator available to use within Bluebook).
Epinephrine auto-injectors (like EpiPens) are permitted without the need for accommodations. They must be placed in a clear bag and stored under the student's desk during testing. For policies on other medications and medical devices, contact Services for Students with Disabilities.
You can bring the following items to the test center:
A watch without an audible alarm. (The Bluebook application has a built-in timer that tells you exactly how much time you have left, but you might still want to time your break.)
A charging cable or portable charger.
A bag or backpack.
A drink or snacks (for your break).
A backup testing device.
Your test scores will be available online about two to three weeks after you take the test. About 10 days after all your scores have been released to you, they'll be sent to your colleges. Your score report will include your combined score and your scores by test section. With College Board's Score Choice, you can send only your best scores from a single test date to your colleges. For more information about Score Choice, visit College Board.
ACT
It’s important to register for the ACT as soon as possible so you have a reserved spot. If the test is cancelled, you will have access to the latest information from the ACT and might be able to reschedule your test more quickly. Here are some tips for registering for the ACT.
Register online: Registering online on the ACT website is the fastest and easiest way to register. From your online account, you can print your admission ticket, make changes to your registration, and view your scores as soon as they are available.
Submit a photo: You must submit a photo of yourself no later than one week before the day of the test. You may upload photos from your computer, from a mobile device, or send a paper copy by mail. The complete photo submission guidelines are on the ACT website.
Find out if you need to take the Writing Test: Some colleges require scores from the optional Writing Test. You can register for this test along with the ACT. It is offered on the same dates as the ACT test.
Pay your fees or apply for a fee waiver: The registration fee for the ACT is $55 without writing and $70 with writing. The fee includes reports for you, your high school, and up to four colleges. There is a fee of $13 for each report sent to additional colleges. Visit the ACT website for a complete list of fees, as well as more information about registration, fee waivers, and the test itself.
Admission Ticket: Print a copy of your admission ticket to bring to the test center. Your ticket contains important registration match information or your online launch code. Once you have uploaded your photo, you can print your admission ticket in MyACT.
Acceptable Photo Identification: Acceptable photo identification is required to be admitted to the test center. You will not be admitted to test if your ID does not meet ACT requirements.
Number 2 pencil: Bring sharpened, No. 2 pencils with good erasers (no mechanical pencils or ink pens). Do not bring any other writing instruments; you will not be allowed to use them.
Watch or Other Timing Device: You may bring a watch, timer, or stopwatch to pace yourself during testing, but it may not have an alarm. Your watch or other timing device must be removed and placed on your desk while in the test room, so that it remains visible to staff during the test. If an alarm sounds, you’ll be dismissed and your test will not be scored.
Calculator: Bring a permitted calculator to be used on the mathematics test only. You are not required to use a calculator at all, but if you do, it is your responsibility to know whether your calculator is permitted.
Snacks: You may bring a snack to eat outside the testing room during break.
