To ensure each learner is supported within the program, a token economy is applied along with individualized behavior-based point sheets which have been created from the IEP goals that were established by the IEP team. From the daily data that is collected through the point sheets, a level system is utilized in order to track learner progress with fidelity, as well as provide accountability for both learners and staff.
It should be noted that the level system does not influence the learner’s time within the general education setting. Each learner has the right to interact and engage with their typical peers, regardless of what level they are on. With that being said, going to the general education setting or inclusion is an expectation, not a choice nor a privilege. Each learner is required to attend their general education environment daily and will receive consequences if they do not. If the learner chooses not to take part in their inclusion time(s), it will be documented on their point sheet as to why. In the scenario your learner chooses to display acts of physical or verbal aggression, as well as physical or verbal combativeness, their inclusion time may be affected. The goal of inclusion is to expose them to the general education setting along with time with their typical peers; if their behavior is not safe or is inappropriate, that is not setting them up for success academically or socially.
The level system is split up into four levels; Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. In order to progress onto the next level, the learner must obtain a score (that is dependent on the level) for five consecutive days. At the end of the fifth day, the learner may move forward on to the next level. If the learner does not obtain the level’s needed score, they will drop. For example, if a learner is on gold, and earns a score of 70%, they will drop to silver. They will have to obtain a score within the silver range for five consecutive days before they can progress forward. If a student demonstrates Bronze level behavior (unsafe and/or aggressive behaviors), then they will move to Bronze and loss of privileges will begin immediately.
K-2nd uses Red, Yellow, Green, and Gold
3rd-6th uses Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum
Bronze: 69% or below
*If a score below 60% is obtained, learner is dropped to Bronze 1
*Will need at least 70% for 5 consecutive days to move to Silver
Silver: 70-79%
*Will need at least 70-79% for 5 consecutive days to move to Gold
Gold: 80-89%
*Will need at least 80-89% for 5 consecutive days to move to Platinum
Platinum: 90%+
*Will need at least 90-100% for 5 consecutive days to receive student selected reward
Simply put, the higher the level the more privileges the learner will have whereas the lower the level the less privileges a learner will encounter. When a learner is on a higher level, such as gold, they have accessibility to more preferred items and tasks. Likewise, the lower the level a learner is on, such as bronze, the less access they have to preferred activities. Essentially, undesired behaviors will cost a learner their privileges, and desired behaviors will benefit the learner with more yearned for privileges.
