There are so many amazing tools that can be used both in person and online. These tools can be used synchronously and asynchronously in any subject and any grade! Using technology with students is one way to increase engagement, make learning visible and connect with students in ways that they enjoy! The technology tools here are all free or have a free components that offer plenty of options for the average user.
Kami would be the equivalent of providing a paper PDF to a student and having them complete it. Students can write on it, color it, add shapes or text. They then save it and submit. This works great with BUZZ assignments or other PDF assignments.
Whiteboard.chat is like having a slate style physical whiteboard in digital form - ON STEROIDS. Teachers can upload a PDF to it and then students can write, draw, add shapes and text and MORE but they each get their OWN and you can see what they are doing in real time! Think EXTREME Jamboard! NO SUBMISSION REQUIRED because teachers can download all boards! Whiteboard.chat also offers TONS of tools for math (manipulatives, math symbols, graphs), music (an interactive keyboard and xylophone, music notes, music paper), ELA (lined paper, elementary lined paper, highlighting, thinking maps), social studies (timelines), science (periodic table, chemical maps) and MORE!!
Think of TeacherMade like a modern version of a scantron or the PDF version of a Google Form! You can create assignments/assessments from a PDF and it will grade it for you!
Padlet allows posts similar to Jamboard but also allows commenting on student posts. Teachers can choose to show immediately or approve comments and posts. Students can add pictures, videos, audio text or even draw!
Whiteboard.chat has tools available for EVERYTHING - math, music, language arts, science, social studies, languages - EVERYTHING. You can upload images or PDFs. Students each get their own and can't see or edit each others. The teacher can monitor student work n real time and can even write on the students' boards! Teachers can showcase individual students so their work can be seen at the teacher's discretion. Users even have the ability to record or snap a picture from their webcam and voice record!
Jamboard allows students to add text boxes, write/draw and add shapes and images. The app is simple to use and students can view and edit each other's slides. This is great for a quick engagement or review activity. There are tons of templates or you can create your own! They are easy to make on the fly.
Kahoot allows teachers to create multiple choice live interactive games. Students compete against each other to get the correct answers. Questions can contain text, images or youtube links. Kahoots can be done live in class or assigned to students for self paced review.
Gimkit was actually created by a STUDENT! It has multiple game modes including individual, team and their NEW "Trust No One" which is similar to the popular game Among Us! Students compete against each other and are rewarded for correct answers. Rewards give them advantages in the game.
With Quizziz, teachers can create a lesson with different slides and incorporate questions throughout! Slides can be created in the platform or imported from Google Slides! It's student paced so it removes the frustration if students devices don't connect quickly!
Nearpod is an add-on that allows teachers to create checks for understanding throughout their Google Slides. There are a variety of question types including multiple choice, drawing, assigned questions in a video and MORE! This is a GREAT tool for engaging students during a presentation. You are limited to the number of lessons. Student responses show live on the screen. These can be done live or assigned to students.
Pear Deck is also an add-on that allows checks for understanding throughout a Google Slide presentation. There are a number of templates available for assigned checks for understanding. Responses need to be displayed to students by the teacher. Pear Deck can be used synchronously or asynchronously.
EdPuzzle offers teachers a way to check students' understanding while watching an assigned video. Teachers can create questions throughout an assigned video that require student responses.
Canva provides templates to create AMAZING graphics! there are templates for everything from posters to brochures, cookbooks, scrapbooks, letters and ANYTHING you can think of! It is easy to use and creates professional looking representation of students' thinking!
Adobe Spark is accessible from the GPS Portal (Rapid Identity). It allows students to create videos, graphics and even websites! It is easy to use and offers many different templates for graphics! It is better suited for our younger grades.
You can't go wrong with Google! It saves automatically to Google Drive, is familiar and easy to use. With a little searching, teachers can find templates that can be used for graphics such as newsletters, scrapbooks and more. One of my favorite Google Slides free templates sites is Slidesgo.com! Check it out and spice up YOUR slide shows!
Screencastify is already added to GPS student accounts and can be easily accessed through the extension! Users can record their screens, themselves or even record a Breakout session in Webex! There are some editing abilities including cut, crop, zoom, blur and text. Videos are automatically saved to the Google Drive! External videos can even be added in the Screencastify editor too by clicking ADD MEDIA!
Adobe Spark is available through a tile on the GPS Portal (Rapid Identity).***Be sure to log in with your school account NOT using Google*** This simple to use interface allows students to add images, text, voice over and video to create amazing videos. Spark does not provide the ability to record through the webcam but videos can be imported into Spark. Finished videos can either be downloaded or shared.
Flipgrid can be used to accept video responses from students. Students can record themselves, import existing videos and use whiteboard features to demonstrate. There are a number of different filter settings and some limited editing tools. Settings allow for students to comment on each others videos. Users have the ability to download their videos as well.
