Music notation software

Music notation software

Using the technology, students can conduct self-directed training and activities to suit their own pace of learning. They would learn the score reading, aural training and listening to different instruments through computer software on the Internet.

Step 1:  What is the app of ‘flat’?

‘Flat’ is the first music notation software that every Gigamind student can use. It is available in iPad, which is beautifully designed to be accessible and simple to use. ‘Flat’ includes all the tools needed to view, compose, arrange, collaborate, print, export and share the sheet music. From MIDI devices to real-time collaboration and full history of all modifications, the best innovative features from Flat will help Gigamind students to learn the music.

Step 2: Discover the software

The teacher guided the student on how to operate the interface. When the students log in to the ‘flat’,  students create their own titles. They choose their favorite instruments for the music score, like a drum set, ukulele and saxophone.

The first concept to know is that set music element, which is time signatures, for example, triple time and quadruple time. Afterward, the students would choose the key signature they needed, like major or minor. And then, the students choose the appropriate tempo for the song. The

students start to create their new song.

Step 3: Start to create their own music

The students can input the suitable note and rhythm ramdomly using touchpad. The teacher give the students criterias for composition. For example, using the pentaonic scales to compose a 4-bar melodic phrase. After finished the work, the students are able to play back their own work. If the student would like to finetune their melodies, they easily amend it on the ‘flat’.

Step 4: Share the score with classmates

After finished the work, the students can share their links by seesaw. The other students can access it on the seesaw, then, they comment on it.

Music technology can break down educational barriers.  Without playing instruments and singing, the students joyfully create or arrange their new composition using their creativity.
