GIBM Declares June 30^th

International Sperm Count Decline Awareness Day

Global Initiative for Boys & Men has designated June 30^th as International Sperm Count Decline Awareness Day and has good reason to do so. According to Dr. Shanna Swan, sperm counts across the world have declined by more than 50% since 1970.

“June 30th will be designated as International Sperm Count Decline Awareness Day,” said Mark Sutton of the Global Initiative for Boys & Men. “This day was chosen because it is halfway through the calendar year, symbolizing the 50% global decline in sperm counts, and the last day of Men’s Health Month. The goal is to raise awareness about the importance of this global health issue that affects men of all races and countries.”

Although the issue has been known for decades, relatively few have been taking the issue more seriously and Swan’s book may be what is needed to invigorate this topic, particularly when it comes to offices of health at local, state, and federal levels. While the nation has seen fit to create an Office of Women’s Health to identify and analyze important health issues for girls and women, no such Office of Men’s Health exists to look at the well-being of all boys and men.

Declining sperm-counts and other reproductive issues are a serious concern internationally. GIBM will be producing a video on the topic, and encourages people to read Dr. Swan’s book, Count Down. The book also includes ideas to minimize exposure and prevent further sperm count declines.
