Year 6 Wednesday 20.1.21

Good Morning!

Please keep sending us you work daily as we love seeing what you have been up to and giving feedback. However, please bear in mind, that we are working in school as well as doing remote learning and taking care of our own families, therefore it may take us some time to respond (if you send us work after 5pm, it may be the next day).

Keep active- try doing a Fitness task between lessons.

Let us know if you need any help with the tasks we set. Have a good day. y6class2020@ghyllside.cumbria.sch.uk

IBLE AND ABLE WORDS.docx

English (approximately 1 hour):

Spellings:

1) Copy out these spellings each day or print off the attached sheet of spellings and use that.

RED: horrible, terrible, possible, impossible, flexible

YELLOW, ORANGE, GREEN: horrible, terrible, possible, impossible, flexible, adorable, available, advisable, acceptable, believable

YOU COULD DO THE WORDSEARCH.

You could use fancy colours, highlight tricky sounds and letters, make them into a pyramid, play' Spot the Bodge' with them, put them into sentences, see how many times you can write them in 1 minute...I know they look easy but they need to be written correctly when your are writing.

Main Task:

LO: I can read and understand the main points of a text.

LO: I can answer different comprehension questions accurately.

Task 1: To ensure that you fully understand the Ancient Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, we have found a comprehension about it. Choose which star is best for you; either one star, two stars or three stars. By the end of this, you should be feeling quite confident and ready to write about a section of the myth tomorrow.

Read:

This can be at any time in the day but should be for at least 30 minutes. Read to yourself, a grown up, sibling, younger cousin (use WhatsApp or similar), pet. Read something different e.g. a magazine or non -fiction book. Talk about what you read and magpie ideas and words for your writing.

You could even make a hot chocolate, put a big coat, hat, gloves and scarf on and read in your garden. Fresh air feels good!!!

Area of Parallelograms Activity Sheet.pdf

Maths (approximately 1 hour):

Times Tables

Practise your x tables- you could write ask a grown up to write you questions and put them out in your garden (like we do at school), throw a ball while saying your x tables, write them in chalk outside or chant them while doing 'spotty dogs'. Go on Times Tables Rockstars.

Main Task:

LO: I can calculate the area of triangles

Extension LO: I can calculate the area of parallelograms

Today you are going to learn / recap how to measure the area of a triangle by watching the clips below before having a go at the questions on the corbettmaths sheets. Once you have done this, if you want more of a challenge read through the 'plan it' power point below that explains how to work out the area of a parallelogram before attempting the 1,2 or 3 star sheets entitled 'area of a parallelogram'.

Extra: Complete a 5 a day task.

RUN UP AND DOWN THE STAIRS 3 X AND DO 10 STAR JUMPS IN BETWEEN!

Science:

Optional Extra: LO: I know that light travels in a straight line (re-cap experiment)

In order to re-cap from last week's learning, here is an experiment that you might like to set up. You will have to just click on this link below and it will take you to the Duckster's website.

https://www.ducksters.com/science/experiment_light_travel.php

LO: I can explain the difference between night and day

Task 1: Listen to the Oak National Academy and work through the lesson and complete the demonstrations. Can you now explain it to your friends or your family? Now write down the explanation. Can you draw some diagrams to show you really understand the concept?

Task 2: For further reinforcement, please watch the BBC Bitesize clip. This is very good.

PSHE:

LO: I know about fire safety and what to do if there is a fire.

Following on from your safety hazards in the home, the Fire Service has sent us a PowerPoint about fire safety in the home. Work through it and the activities.

Fitness:

Keep moving! Try doing one of the following. The idea is that you do these through the day, in between 'lessons'. Get outside in your garden when you can and move fast.

  • Use the ideas from Monday and Tuesday (Spell you Name and 60 secs) to make your own Fitness circuit- send it to us and we might use your ideas for next week's Fitness.

  • Challenge of 100 (go into 5 different rooms, in each room do an exercise 20x eg; 20 star jumps, 20 tuck jumps, 20 spotty dogs or burpees)

  • Mile Mission

  • Do the Tabata

  • Follow a Joe Wicks programme

Optional Extra:

Be kind- do something thoughtful for someone you care about.

You could write a letter, draw a picture, do some jobs for a grown up.

ps this shouldn't be an 'optional extra'!
