The PAW Writer’s Lab at Garfield Heights High School is a writing lab committed to support every student’s development as competent, confident writers. Our mission is to encourage and empower each other throughout the writing process by providing honest, constructive feedback during one-on-one sessions conducted by peer tutors. We strive to create a collaborative environment that allows writers to thrive both academically and creatively by teaching everyone to be reflective writers and scholars every day.
Interested in becoming a Writing Consultant? We are currently recruiting peer tutors for after school session on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:00. Additional slots may become open throughout the school day during the Spring semester.
Writing Consultant Application - Once you have completed your application, please share it with kskocdopole@ghbulldogs.org
The PAW Writer’s Lab is guided by the following values and principles.
Every writer deserves a safe, welcoming environment to develop their writing, regardless of discipline, ability, or background.
We are committed to helping writers improve their craft, not just individual writing tasks.
All writers can write well and should be afforded the opportunity to own their writing processes and express themselves in meaningful ways.
We are all learning, and learning can sometimes make us feel vulnerable. As we learn together, we pledge to keep our writing consultations confidential.
Collaboration is at the core of our center’s success. Students are partnered with peer tutors who provide respectful, relevant feedback and guidance aimed at helping them develop as writers. Our role as peer tutors is to help writers understand where and how to make changes.
Through collaboration, we can build a community of writers who positively impact Garfield Heights High School as well as the district.
The PAW Writer’s Lab is not an editing or plagiarism checking service. The PAW writing consultants will not be party to plagiarism, use of ChatGPT, or writing papers for clients. Writing consultants cannot be held responsible for students who choose to turn in plagiarized materials. It is the responsibility of the teacher to identify plagiarism in their students’ writing and follow school policy for consequences.
