Dear Parents

After the rain of Friday, Monday's assembly for International Children's Day brought us sunshine and smiles.  Well done Year 1! 🤩

I had great fun reading "Oi Cat!" to FS this week.  Their little faces made me smile all day.  Children really love stories and it's so important to get the love of reading embedded in them in the early years - reading is the foundation for all learning (in all subjects).  

We had our first field trips to the Heritage Express to learn all about the UAE.  I think the teachers enjoyed it as much as the kids!  

Rehearsals are ongoing for our National Day celebrations on the 29th of November.  The school will open our normal time but will close at 12.00 pm that day.  I do hope you will be able to join us.  We invite parents to send in food to share (doesn't have to be regional), as there will be dancing and games for all of us to enjoy.

There has been some confusion about Friday 1st of December, but the KHDA has now clarified that this Friday will be held as 'distance learning' and therefore all lessons will be online.  The school will be closed on Monday 4th (with no online learning) and will reopen on Tuesday 5th of November.   I hope this helps clarify things for you, but any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Dear Parents

These days I have been trying to practise  the power of positive words, hence thought of sharing the same with you.  Research es on the power of Positive Words has proved that Words have many layers and are more than just a way to communicate because WORDS have ENERGY, they hold VIBRATION and have POWER.  Every words carries an energy that can be sensed regardless of whether you are THINKING IT, SPEAKING IT,  HEARING IT or READING it on the page. A lot of elements impact a words energy.

Japanese scientist, Masaru Emoto performed experiments on frozen water in the late 1990’s and tested the crystallization of the frozen water through the use of positive and negative verbiage. To one group of water, he spoke negative words and phrases, and to the other he spoke positive words and phrases. After a period of time, the negative group produced ugly, cloudy crystal formations, while the positive group produced clear, beautiful crystals. The point of the study was to demonstrate the power of words and their impact on how living things are transformed.

The words that we use in our daily life are a habit – a settled or regular tendency or practice. Any statement we read, see, or speak regularly is seen as more valid than one we’re exposed to only occasionally. Some of us are in the habit of using negative words or phrases over and over again. The more we use and hear words or phrases, the more it becomes normal and the more power it has over us, thus the more it shapes us Words have power over your physical body.

Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can or you can’t – you’re right.” This simple statement simply calls to action the thought process of an individual. If you are consistently using phrases that involve “I can’t” or “I won’t” then you’ve already sealed your fate. “I can”, “I will”, and “I’m able” are phrases that empower the mind and the body, mentally and physically. The key is to make the words you speak work for you. Change your language and you’ll change your life. Instead of saying “I have to” say “I get to”. View each situation as an opportunity. Stay away from criticizing yourself and “throwing words away”. How many times a day do we throw our words away? We say things like, “I hate ,” “I’m so ,” “I’m such a .” It’s doing more harm to your physical body than good. Surround yourself with positive, uplifting words. Remember, your health and well being depend on it.

We have had another great week in year 2. In maths we have been continuing our unit of addition and subtraction. In english we have been innovating our stories and learning about adverbs. In science we have been learning about the basic needs of animals and humans for survival and the children were excited to  do some research on their tablets to find out how different animals have adapted to survive in their habitats. In IPC we have started our lessons on The big green lesson in relation to the COP 28 summit that will be taking place in the UAE. The children had a fantastic time on the trip to the heritage express and enjoyed learning more about the UAE culture. 

Using counters in Maths to identify the correct amount of groups needed to share.  

What we've done

Another successful and busy week of learning in Year 4!

We started this week with a fantastic COP28 lesson which was all about the upcoming summit in UAE. We listed the way we are harming our planet and brainstormed ideas to protect our environment.

As mathematicians, we have been using the multiplication and division operations to answer questions. At the beginning of the week, we started with multiples of 3 and in the latter part, we went onto multiples of 6. We extended our knowledge by using the opposite operation and linked our knowledge of multiples to work out division problems.

In English, we continued to write and uplevel our non-chronological report. We have researched interesting facts to include and drawn wonderful pictures to go with this, looking forward to the final piece!

In Science, we looked at the water cycle in more detail and discussed our upcoming investigation!

We're gearing up for UAE National Day celebrations next week! Our students have had an amazing week, making strides in writing Arabic letters and sentences, confidently exchanging greetings, and exploring Arabic numbers and colors. Keep the Arabic practice alive at home, and let's continue this exciting language learning journey together!
