Dear Parents

Another great week at GPS.  I'm in the process of getting the school ready for next year so I humbly remind you that admissions are open.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.  

Recently on Google Reviews we were hit by a 'paid troll' named "nana" who decided to write some unfair and ridiculous statements about the school.  We have informed Google but it is taking time for them to remove it.  I have a favour to ask all parents who are happy with us, please take 2 minutes to post something to counter this - even if it's just giving us stars.  Thank you! The team here were really upset to see their hard work hit that way and thank you for those who already have posted something in our defence.

And now for our announcement for Friday 30th of May.  The school will have an area in Festival Plaza Mall to display the arts and crafts the children have made through their "Makers Market" project.  We will be teaming up with the Red Crescent and offering our crafts for donations to the charity.  The activity will run between 12.00pm and 4.00pm and all students are involved.  We will transport the children to the mall just before 12.00pm and invite you to come and see us.  More details will follow soon via your class teacher.

Dear Parents,

Today’s topic is : Nurturing with Love, Not Just with Things

In today’s fast-paced world, it's easy to equate love with giving—gadgets, toys, treats, or even constant entertainment. As parents, our desire to provide the best for our children comes from a place of deep love and care. However, it's important to pause and reflect: are we giving them what they truly need, or simply what they want?

Over-provision is not a measure of love. In fact, it can sometimes cloud the values we want our children to embrace—gratitude, patience, resilience, and empathy.

Let me share a few thoughts and suggestions that may help guide our children in a more meaningful direction:

Real Love is in Boundaries and Balance

Example 1:
Instead of buying a new toy every time your child asks for one, encourage them to earn it by completing small tasks at home. This teaches effort, responsibility, and delayed gratification.

Example 2:
If your child constantly demands screen time, try replacing that with a shared experience—like reading a book together, going for a nature walk, or playing a board game. This builds connection and memory, not dependency.

Strategies for Positive Parenting

1. Set Clear, Consistent Boundaries
   Children feel safer and more secure when they know what’s expected of them. Say "no" when needed, and stick to it. Consistency builds trust.

2. Model the Behavior You Wish to See
   Children learn far more by watching than by being told. Show them kindness, respect, and emotional regulation, and they’ll mirror it back.

3. Celebrate Effort, Not Just Results
   Praise your child for trying hard, being honest, or helping others—not just for getting top marks. This nurtures a growth mindset and values character over achievement.

4. Teach the Joy of Giving
   Encourage your child to share their toys with a friend or donate gently used clothes to those in need. This cultivates empathy and community-mindedness.

5. Build a Routine with Purpose
   Balanced routines that include chores, learning, free play, and family time foster independence and security. Avoid the trap of over-scheduling or over-indulging.

 A Gentle Reminder

Children do not remember the things you bought them nearly as much as they remember the way you made them feel. Your time, your patience, your attention, and your guidance are the greatest gifts you can offer.

Let’s raise children who are not just provided for, but truly prepared for life.

What we've done

This week in Year 1, we’ve been busy explorers, thinkers, and scientists! We began our exciting new topic on time. The children have been learning to sequence events in their day and use vocabulary like before and after to describe their routines. In English, we compared the characters from The Snail and the Whale, discussing their personalities and actions. We also kicked off our persuasive writing topic by designing colourful posters to help save the whale—the children had lots of brilliant ideas! We headed to the beach (in the classroom!) to learn about human and physical features. The children did a great job identifying, naming, and sorting features such as piers, cliffs, and lighthouses. Our young scientists were amazed this week as we explored weather experiments. We created rain clouds, made a tornado in a jar, and even blew up a balloon using air pressure! The children absolutely loved getting hands-on with science.

Well done, Year 1—what a fantastic week of learning and fun!

What we've done

This week in Year 2, the children enjoyed diving into the classic tale Jack and the Beanstalk. They made thoughtful predictions about what might happen next in the story and practised their reading skills with great enthusiasm. In Maths, we wrapped up our unit on statistics, where the children confidently interpreted data using pictograms and block diagrams. Our Science lessons took us inside a seed, as we explored what seeds need to grow and began observing how they change over time. For MSC, we learned about some of the fascinating museums in the UAE and discussed what we might see if we visited them. In Humanities, we compared two incredible polar explorers—Matthew Henson and Felicity Aston—and discussed their journeys, challenges, and contributions to exploration. It’s been a week full of learning and curiosity!

What we've done

We've had a fantastic and busy week in Year 3! 

In English we kicked off our new topic on narrative poetry! The children explored a selection of fairytales and studied a narrative poem based on Hansel and Gretel. They then chose their favourite part of the story and began planning their very own narrative poems—some very creative ideas are already taking shape! Our seed monitoring in Science is in full swing! This week, we also took a closer look at roots and leaves, learning about their roles in helping plants grow and thrive. To bring our learning to life, we went on a nature walk around the school to explore and identify different types of leaves—an exciting hands-on experience! In Maths, we’ve been working with mass. The children have been comparing different weights, adding and subtracting mass, and learning how to read different types of scales. In MSC, the children presented their projects, sharing their favourite activities from their UAE journey with great confidence. For Humanities, each child chose an 'Extreme Earth' topic—like earthquakes or volcanoes—and used their devices to conduct research. They then presented their findings to the class with enthusiasm and pride.

What we've done

Another fabulous week of learning! 

This week in Year 4, we’ve been busy strengthening our skills across the curriculum. In English, the children have been revisiting SPaG nd developing their reading comprehension through a variety of engaging texts. I am so impressed to see how their retrieval skills have developed and improved over the year. 

In Maths, we have consolidated our understanding of money, focusing on calculations using decimals. Next week, we’re excited to start our new topic: telling the time.

For our Humanities assessment, the children explored The Blue Abyss, focusing on the layers of the ocean. They did a fantastic job using their research and IT skills to create informative and visually impressive PowerPoint presentations. Well done, Year 4!

Looking ahead, we’re excited about the Makers’ Market at Festival Plaza next week (details to be confirmed). Year 4 will be making dream catchers, in preparation for the big sale. We can’t wait to see their beautiful creations on display.

We had a great week in our Spanish lessons . All year group completed different activities and topics based on their classes . In year 1 students has done diffrentiated tasks based on Frutas ,verduras y todo mi cuerpo by doing matching and crossword worksheets . In year 2 students continued topic based on los animales y mascotas by doing listening and writing based on it which encourage students learn more about los animales y mascotas in Spanish . In year 3 students discussed and completed tasks based on La Comida española by writing ,listening  and speaking worksheets . In year 4 students learnt about los animales and described their favorite animals in Spanish . In year5 we research about types of food and to read and write differnt time in Spanish which can be used by making sentences based on it . In year 6 students individually reviewd and wrote the forms of verbo Ser also completed sentences in Spanish by using Verbo Ser , pronombres y adjetivos . Gracias for your support .

Curious Minds, Creative Hands!

It’s been another action-packed week in our STREAM class! Students across all year levels tackled exciting challenges that blended science, technology, engineering, art, and math—developing key skills while having lots of fun.

FS & Year 1 – The STEAM Team Challenge!

This week, our youngest innovators took part in a fun and tricky STEAM Team Challenge. Working together, they used rubber bands and strings to stack paper cups—no hands allowed! It was a brilliant activity to build teamwork, problem-solving, and fine motor skills, and the kids loved every minute of it.

Year 2 – Digital Art Meets Imagination!

Our Year 2 students stepped into the world of digital creativity using Tux Paint to design a project titled “The Magical Garden.” Exploring the different features of the software, they combined colours, shapes, and textures to bring their unique gardens to life. The results were both imaginative and beautiful!

Years 3–6 – Robotics in Action!

The robotics journey is full steam ahead for our Years 3 to 6 students! This week, they designed, built, and programmed their very own robots using LEGO Spike Kits. Their challenge: get their robot to move and perform specific tasks. With creativity and teamwork, they engineered some amazing robotic creations!

STREAM continues to be a place where students think, make, and innovate. We’re so proud of their enthusiasm and progress—and can’t wait to see what they’ll create next!
