Dear Parents
Back to school with a smile and well-rested. Lots of upcoming events from bake sales to dog shelter supplies drive. A special trip for the older children to experience the Emariti culture next week and FS will be supporting the community by selling cakes (5 aed) and collecting supplies for the dog sanctuary.
This week went quickly with all getting 'back to business.' We've received some wonderful projects on 'People of Principles' and looking forward to seeing more.
Assessments will be the week of 4th of March 2024. All subjects will be assessed and your teachers will let you know more details.

Monday 26th - Haq Al Laila Celebrations - UAE traditional dress/colours and Assembly Years 3 & 4 with presenters from Years 7&8. Haq Al Laila is an annual occasion that is celebrated in the middle of Sha’aban, the eighth month in the Islamic Hijri calendar. Households keep giveaways ready for children, who joyfully knock on their neighbours’ doors for small offerings and treats saying “atoona haq al laila”, which translates to“ give us sweets for tonight”. Looking forward to seeing you at the assembly!
Wednesday 28th - FS Bake Sale (5 aed per item) and our UAE culture school trip (years 2 to 8). UAE traditional dress/colours for those on the trip is encouraged.
Friday 1st of March - International Day - looking for volunteers 😁 Traditional foods, traditional items/clothes from your country displays, face painting and/or any other great ideas will be welcomed. Please contact your class teacher to arrange.
Friday 8th of March - Sports Day - everyone to wear their house colors - families welcomed to participate.

Dear Parents,
As the value of the Month is PRINCIPLES, hence I thought of talking about some Principles by mentioning about some men and women who lived with principles which will encourage you. What does it mean to be person of principle? It means that a person feels the importance of sticking to certain values, beliefs and actions – regardless of outer consequences. For example, if we believe it is wrong to discriminate on the grounds of religious faith, a person of principle will be willing to oppose this discrimination even if it costs his job. Let me focus on people who believed in the principle of courage and peace this week.
COURAGE:
Nelson Mandela (1918 – 2013) was a South African political activist who spent over 20 years in prison. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize (jointly with F.W. de Klerk) in 1993 for his work in helping to end racial segregation in South Africa. He is considered the father of a democratic South Africa and widely admired for his ability to bring together a nation, previously divided by apartheid
Helen Keller (1880-1968) was an American author, political activist and campaigner for deaf and blind charities. Helen became deaf and blind as a young child and had to struggle to overcome her dual disability. However, she became the first deaf-blind person to attain a bachelor’s degree and became an influential campaigner for social, political and disability issues. Her public profile helped de-stigmatise blindness and deafness, and she was seen as a powerful example of someone overcoming difficult circumstances.
PEACE
Betty Williams (born 22 May 1943) was a co-recipient with Mairead Corrigan of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1976 for her work as a co-founder of Community of Peace People, an organisation dedicated to promoting a peaceful resolution to The Troubles in Northern Ireland.
Mahatma Gandhi was a prominent Indian political leader who was a leading figure in the campaign for Indian independence. He employed non-violent principles and peaceful disobedience as a means to achieve his goal.
I am sure you know many more, it good to share some famous people whom you believe has inspired you with their principles. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to spend some time talking and sharing your experiences with our students.

What we've done
This week we started our new project 'Rescue Tails'. The children are learning all about taking care of animals in our community and about the works of the animal shelters. As part of the project they will be running a bake sale on Wednesday 28th February, so we encourage you all to bring in 5 aed for your child to enjoy some of the treats. As part of preparation for the bake sale the children have been creating a list of treats they would like to sell, preparing posters and banners and decorating their donation boxes which you can find in reception. The idea of their bake sale is to understand the process of how they can get food or toys for the dogs they will go and visit in the K9 friends animal shelter. In mathematics the children have been learning how to combine two groups to find a total and use their addition skills, they have also been using their conceptual subitizing skills to count groups faster. In Science, we have been looking at chemical reactions, understanding how cakes rise in the oven and turn from a liquid to a solid as well as creating their own ice cream.

Welcome back! Year 1 have came back with a bang and are ready to get stuck in to term 2B. In maths, we have started place value within 50, reading, writing and representing numerals to 50 in a number of ways. The children have thoroughly enjoyed participating in provision activities and competing with their friends. This week in English, we have been focusing on SPAG, particularly suffixes. We have been learning to add the suffixes -er, -est, -ed, and -ing to root words, without changing the meaning of the words. It's great to see how the children are becoming more and more independent in their writing every week! :) In science, we were exploring living and non living things.
This weeks star of the week goes to Chi Chen, for his excellent efforts and improvement in his spelling tests! ⭐️ Well done Chi Chen!
Year 2
Year 2 have had a great start to the second half of term 2. In English we have had an introduction to persuasive writing and learning abouts facts and opinions. In maths we have been learning about position and direction. In Science we have started our new topic of plants and this week we were learning about the different parts of the plant. In IPC we have started the topic active planet and this week year 2 have been learning about space and were excited to make their very own astronauts. In MSC the children have been learning about caring for themselves and others. It has been wonderful to see the children being creative with their projects on Florence Nightingale and how much thought they have put into them.

Excellent return from Year 3, Welcome back! The children have dived straight into new topics for English and Science this week. In English we have started a new class book 'The Firework-maker's Daughter', they have been extremely invested in finding out more about the story and keen to dig into the book. In Science we have started exploring light! The children investigated on the difference between natural and artificial light. For Maths we recapped on where we left off and are now focusing on adding different lengths and converting the measurements into the same unit.

Welcome back to Term 2B!
This week we got back into the swing of learning after a restful week off.
In Maths, we have started our topic of Statistics. We looked at different graphs and how information information has been interpreted. We used the data to answer word problems and present this using a range of different graphs such as bar graphs, pictograms and tables. In English, we compiled our newsletter and began focusing on SPAG and comprehension.
As mini scientists, we started our new topic of Living things and their habitats. We explored how living things can be grouped and linked our learning to graphs and tables to group them into Venn and Carroll diagrams.
On Monday we will be celebrating Haq Al Laila in school. Please ensure your child is wearing traditional Emirati clothing.

This week, the children were excited to get back into learning. In English, we explored fact files and identified their features. Also, the children have started researching information for their chosen animal to create a fact file. In Maths, we have begun looking at statistics. The children have explored tally charts, pictograms and bar graphs.
In Science, we started a new unit, Earth and Space and looked at scientific evidence to determine whether the Earth is flat or spherical. In MSC, we have learned about conflict and how to solve problems when they happen. In our Geography lesson, we continued to explore map symbols and their meanings. Overall, it has been a great week.

What we've done
A great week has passed showing some great progression. English has seen students progress in their dystopian fiction genre with hunger games reading. While in maths we have finished our multiplicative changes with scale factors and ratios. Science has seen us move towards digestion and further nutrition. Humanities has seen the introduction of the topic mountains while we continue on weather, specifically this week air pressure in IPC. Students also partook in Monday movement, Thursday morning reading buddy, and fruity Friday.
A gentle reminder to dress in Australian colours for Friday as we are celebrating and representing them for international day!

We would like to share with you the latest updates and achievements our students have accomplished during this fruitful week. This week has been filled with activity and learning in our classrooms, and we are proud of your children's dedication to progress and skill development.
Kindergarten Students: They learned the letter "ث" in an engaging and exciting way.
First Grade Students: They grasped the Arabic diacritical marks and short vowels, which positively affected their pronunciation of words.
Second Grade Students: They analyzed words and practiced advanced reading skills.
Third Grade Students: They prepared for the celebration of Laylat al-Qadr and participated effectively in reading exercises.
Fourth Grade Students: They learned about the four seasons and explored weather conditions in an enjoyable manner.
Fifth Grade Students: They gained valuable knowledge on the topic "In the Hotel."
Seventh and Eighth Grade Students: They successfully completed the lesson "Why Do I Travel" and benefited from their active engagement and valuable contributions.

This week we explore around our school with KS 3 to learn about types of professions in our school in which students met all staff and wrote their professions including gender in Spanish . KS 2 students learn about types of food included articles in Spanish by drawing ,writing , cutting and pasting food in the their notebooks . Keep supporting your kids.

Welcome back! It's a fun week for everyone in our STREAM class. The children in FS enjoyed our funny face-making activity after learning that we are all unique and different from one another. Years 1 and 2 created a poster entitled Habitat Heroes. This week, years 3 and 4 have been busy completing their research on different eras in human history. Years 5 to 8 drew a human brain and labelled its parts as we began the IPC unit topic "Brainwave".
