This week we have been exploring maps! The children have been looking at different elements of a map and learning how to use a simple compass. We went on a treasure hunt in the classroom using our giant compass and classroom treasure map. The children were able to use language such as 'go west to the book corner'! They then practiced using coordinates on a grid and then made their own treasure maps. With their treasure maps they worked in pairs to use the coordinates to locate elements on their friends map.

In writing this week, we discussed what a pirate needs, writing down all of our ideas on white boards with a partner, practicing our phonics. We then explored the question; 'why do pirates wear an eye patch'? we had lots of great ideas such as; they need it because it is sunny outside, they are blind, because they want to be a pirate, it makes them strong, to protect their eye!

In mathematics; we looked at the composition of the number ten and discovered all the different ways we could make 10. We also put our findings into a number sentence showing our progress in addition. 

Next week we will look at messages in a bottle and floating and sinking, creating our own pirate ships out of junk modelling.

This week we have been super busy completing out Summer term 1 assessments. 

In English we learnt to recite a new poem 'The chubby snowman' and were developing our comprehension and retrieval skills. We learnt to add the suffixes -ed, and -ing and apply them in our writing.  In maths, we having been looking at position and direction, discussing quarter, half, three- quarter and full turns and using left and right. The children thoroughly enjoyed pretending to be the main character following instructions to complete a series of tasks using directional language. For science this week, we used our designs to create our boat using recycled materials. In the next lesson, we will be testing our boats to see if they are waterproof or not. 

In geography, we created 3D globes and labelled the five oceans and seven continents. Lastly, in IPC, we discussed our favourite toys, their purpose and how they were built before designing our own toy. 

Year 3 have done a great job in completing their NGRT and assessments this week! In English they have been focusing on perfecting their poem skills using figurative language. Whereas in Maths we re-capped fractions and practiced comparing and ordering them.  In History this week the children had lots of fun comparing the modern British justice system to the the old Viking/Anglo-Saxon justice system. Whereas in Science we have wrapped up the topic 'friction' and will be diving into the topic of 'magnets' next week. 

Wow, what a busy week we've had in Year 5! The children completed their NGRT test and summer mid-term assessments. They worked extremely hard and deserved a treat. To celebrate their efforts, we made chocolate cornflakes and linked this activity to our science lessons on reversible and irreversible changes. The boys enjoyed the entire process of making the chocolate cornflakes, from melting the chocolate to mixing it with the cornflakes and allowing it to set. This hands-on activity provided a fun reward and reinforced their understanding of scientific concepts in an engaging and memorable way. Please take a look at our pictures below.

We also continued learning about Harry Potter in English, focusing on the resolution and exploring speech. In Maths, we calculated the perimeter of rectangles and rectilinear shapes.

We started our week off with some movement Monday out in the PE hall. Impressed with both the kids participation. This week also saw our secondary students complete their NGRTs (hence lots of reading) while also completing their Summer 1 test in English, Math, Science and MSC (lots of homework). We also researched and created our poster on Stephan Hawking as our months project focus was on a 'Communicator'. The children will be starting to practice their GLs for the upcoming exams on the week of 3rd June! After all these exams are finished and just before Eid holidays were looking to have our Adventure Park school trip! So please do not forget to fill out the forms and send your child. This week we had assessment week in Spanish in which all students completed their assessments , also student did revision for their assessments about days of the weeek , months name , pronombres and  verb - Ser in Spanish . After completing assessments students played kahoot . KS3 make phrases in Spanish in which they mentioned  types of  professions , nationalities and description about a person or place which makes them more confident and independent .  Thanks for your support .

The students have been busy in STREAM class this week. The children in FS had lots of fun applying their coding skills while exploring Scratch Jr. Year 1 created cup and ball toys from recyclable materials. Year 2 enjoyed their group challenge of building a runway for their marbles using wooden blocks. Year 3 had been busy creating and painting recycled plastic bottle pots for our waste innovation project. Years 4 through 8 were busy designing, programming and setting up their robots.
