GPS Newsletter

The FS children have had a fantastic week learning about the United Arab Emirates and some of the icons that make it a very special place to live! They had a wonderful time putting on their performances during the celebrations and have been practicing very hard!

This week we have also been getting ready for our Winter Fayre, practicing our songs and dances too. In Mathematics we have been producing 1 less to 5 using tactile objects and songs to practice and apply. In Science we learned about important icons of the UAE and created our own UAE flag using edible items! In Writing we have been labeling UAE icons and writing sentences about what we like most about the UAE and why. Next week there will be a Winter wonderland surprise waiting for the children in class!

We had another busy and fun week in Year 1. The children worked so hard to perfect their songs and dances for our UAE National day celebrations. I hope you all enjoyed their performances. 

In maths, we have been learning all about 3D shapes and have been exploring everyday objects in our classroom and the environment around us. The children enjoyed finding and comparing 3D shapes by stacking, rolling etc. In English this week, we were reading the story 'Owl babies', sequencing story cards, making nests for the owls in the tuff tray and made a beautiful owl craft. We were comparing fiction and non-fiction characters and comparing the stories we've read so far this term. In IPC, we continued with the Big Green lesson, learning all about sustainability and how to make our world a better place. And finally, in history the children thoroughly enjoyed taking on the role of Florence Nightingale and injured soldiers from the war, to get an understanding of what life was like before Florence's impact in the medical world. 

This week has been filled lots of fun and hard work ! Year 3 have been doing really well in re-calling their 2,3 and 4 multiplications and using this knowledge to divide and share equally. In Science we have been focusing on different types of skeletons and what type different animals including humans have and why. Whereas in English Year 3 have started to write their own instructional text independently. 

This week, Year 5 were busy preparing for National Day celebrations. The children presented exceptional performances and enjoyed the experience. Additionally, they led the Commemoration Day assembly. 

In English, we started adding our own twists to story maps and began writing the start of a myth. In Maths, we investigated which fractions were equivalent to a unit fraction. For Science, we looked into dissolving and predicted which materials would dissolve. The children presented their presentation on National Day in MSC. In IPC and Humanities, we continued with 'The Big Green Lessons.' The students learned about COP and delved into understanding what a carbon footprint is. 

Coming to our final week of term 1, the children have progressed immensely. They have now covered a range of topics within each subject and completed their tests that is to be stated on their report cards on the 8th of December. This week saw our National day celebrations, and half day Online on Friday. Next week is a holiday on Monday while we have our Winter celebrations on the final day of the week, term and year!

In English, children have covered report writing, vast punctuation and grammar ideas ontop of their comprehension and reading skills. In maths we have covered our foundational multiplication, division, subtraction and addition while having also almost completed the topic of fractions. In science they have worked scientifically on topics such as Animals including humans and Living things and their habitats. In MSC we have covered respect, responsibility and duties within school and outside while also learning all about the UAE. During project we had covered expressing ourselves and learning about emotions and how to deal with them along with starting the topic of weather and climate. Linking our IPC lesson into the UAEs COP28 initiative and The Big Green Lessons.

This week  we had so many activities in which included some research work by KS2 and word-search based on Spanish numbers in KS1 in which students participated actively also we learn about Spanish countries in which student research about all Spanish speaking countries and noted in their notebooks which makes them to explore more about Spanish countries .

It's a fun week for everyone in our STREAM class in GPS! The FS and Year 1 students enjoyed our coding activity using Qobo the Snail. Year 2 finally completed their rainwater harvesting project. This week, years 3 and 4 have been busy finalising their projects on sustainability. Year 5 has been busy planning for a new project on weather and climate. Years 7 and 8 are still working on their sustainability project this week.
