We have had a fantastic couple of weeks setting up our fundraiser for the Dog Shelter, K9 friends. The children thoroughly enjoyed taking the lead in selling their baked goods to the rest of the school and we had a wonderful morning coming together as a school to share and be part of a good cause. The children will now purchase dog food for their class donation. The whole process during this little project was to help children understand the process of generating an income to purchase the items they needed rather than thinking food simply comes from the supermarket. During the week they have also enjoyed creating their own butter and understanding where butter comes from. In writing they created some bake sale invitations using their phonics knowledge to build words and sentences. In math, we have been exploring length and height and had a lot of fun measuring, comparing and ordering sizes practicing new vocabulary. They even ordered themselves by height as a whole class!

This week we started our dinosaur detectives project and the children have been on the hunt for a missing dinosaur, creating missing posters and research footprints and features of dinosaurs to uncover what type of dinosaur it could be. next week we will find out what it might eat.

We had a brilliant and busy week in Year 1 with lots of exciting new topics. In English we have been reading the story The Snail and the Whale and have been writing postcards as one of the characters, about our amazing journey. In maths, we have been learning all about measurement specifically height and length. The children have loved measuring everything in and around the classroom using non-standard units and using the language taller/longer and shorter than to compare. In Science, we started our new topic Materials. The children went on a materials hunt around the classroom and outside recording what materials they could find. We will now use these to build a masterpiece of choice. 

We ended the week with a really fun Sports day. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and participated in all the games. 

This weeks Star of the week goes to Alex for working super hard in phonics and beginning to blend CVC words. I am so proud of you Alex ⭐️ 

Year 3 have had a very fun and busy couple of weeks ! Last week they got to learn and enjoy the amazing UAE culture and visited a museum for the 'Haq Al Laila' celebration. They also did a great performance for international day on the continent Africa ! For English they have been reading the book 'The Firework maker's daughter' and are now beginning to plan ideas on how to turn it into a playscript.  Whereas for Maths they have been learning and practising perimeter. For Science they conducted a great investigation on shadows and exploring artificial and natural light. 

It's been yet another two bustling weeks! The kids embarked on an enlightening Haq Al Leila trail at Al Shindagha Museum, soaking in information and marvelling at the artefacts on display.

In English, we kicked off our animal fact file. Each child picked their animal and wrote an excellent introduction and a section on appearance. In Maths, we drew a bar graph and answered questions. We then explored different angles (acute, right angle, obtuse, straight and reflex) and used a protractor to measure them. In Science, we explored day and night and how the sun moves. In addition, we learned how many planets there are in the solar system and researched facts about each one.

International Day was incredible with all the performances. The children worked hard at researching and gathering information about Indonesia and created a fantastic poster. I hope you enjoyed International Day.

Sports Day was another fantastic day. The children enjoyed taking part in the different activities and were very competitive!

Following our busy week, the students had visited Shindaga Museum for Hag al Laila encompassing their second trip of the term. We also thoroughly enjoyed our International Day celebrations representing Australia and New Zealand. During English we completed our topic on dystopian fiction by describing a scene from our own planned dystopian world. In maths we have started our new topic on Alegrabic brackets and inequalities. Further more we move onto the digestive system in Nutrition for science. 

Next week we look forward to our special visitors to come and see the progress we have made as a collective in school. 

Hola Everyone, 

During these two weeks, we learned about many topics. KS1 learned about the months of the year, Mi Familia (my family), and seasons. The children enjoyed learning the songs, too. In KS2, we learned about masculino, femenino, and pronombres (pronouns). The children became confident and were able to make short sentences in Spanish with the Verb Ser—to be. In the coming week, we will explore more grammar and basics in Spanish with fun and exciting activities and games.

It's another fun week for everyone in our STREAM class in GPS! The children in FS enjoyed their role-play being nurses and doctors while rescuing injured toys. Years 1 and 2 learnt about islands and enjoyed creating their Treasure Island maps. This week, years 3 and 4 have been busy designing their posters for their selected eras. In years 5 through 8, the students learnt about the human brain and made a 3D brain from salt dough.
