GPS Newsletter

This week we jumped straight into our community helpers project with a crime scene in the classroom. Miss Chloe's water bottle had been taken! We explored the different roles of community helpers and looked at the people who could help with our investigation. We created wanted posters and labelled evidence bags and worked on different types of questions. In Maths, we began exploring patterns, patterns we see and hear and patterns that repeat. This week we have been learning to work collaboratively in pairs. We create our own mini community using recycled materials.

Year 1 had another extremely busy week of learning! We started our new unit in maths; addition and subtraction and have enjoyed a variety of hands on activities and have been using part-whole models to write number sentences. We have been learning about different animal habitats in Science, comparing land and ocean habitats and animals that live in each. In English, we have been enjoying the story 'The Tiger who came to tea', and were able to write captions to match pictures from the story as well as using adjectives to describe the tiger. The children enjoyed creating their own simple street maps in Geography, and even made a key for their map as well as designed emergency vehicles for services on their maps. This is all linked in with our IPC topic 'A Day in the life'. 

Great week for Year 3! This week in Maths we started subtracting 1's across 10, which they are picking up on very well.  In English the children started writing their own diary entry's in the perspective of Jack (from Jack and the beanstalk) and even presented their work in front of the class. In science we have started exploring animals including humans and have been learning about nutrition's and different food groups. 

Year 5 had another busy week! In English, we wrote instructions on 'How to catch a Dream'. The children enjoyed being the BFG and enacted how to catch a dream. In Maths, we have been subtracting using the formal written method. It was tricky to do multiple exchanges while subtracting, but we are getting the hang of it. In Science, we have looked at who Jane Goodall was and her work with the chimpanzees. In MSC, we explored sympathy and empathy. In IPC, we researched animal feelings, what makes them angry, happy, jealous, and their fears.

This week Year 7 & 8 have been busy finishing up their topics in Science, Humanities and Math. We're recapping all our topics in preparation for our tests next week. Students have chosen their topic to deliver as a presentation to the class of either Living things and their habitats along with our mould experiment or Learning all about the Chinese history in humanities. We have started our new Math topic on Fractions while in English we are going into `fictional writing skills. During MSC we learnt about Respect and how to express our viewpoints by completing a roleplay activity in class. Lastly we also performed our assembly practice on world blindness day educating students and the school community of how we can support the cause!

This week was such a great week , Students learn about colours , greetings , body parts , likes & dislikes and research about some famous Spanish personalities including food and cultural dance of the Spanish world with worksheets , activties and kahoot platforms which is encouraging students to learn more and grow more in Spanish . Keep supporting them at home as well .

It's been a busy, fun week for everyone in our STREAM class! The children in FS enjoyed creating and designing their paper spinning windmills, whilst years 1 and 2 had fun designing uniforms for their chosen community helpers. Years 3 and 4 this week have been busy designing and building famous bridges worldwide using recyclables. Year 5 were busy planning and sketching their sculpture designs. Years 7 and 8 started constructing their cardboard sculptures, applying the different construction techniques they've learned.
