Honor Orchestra

What is Honor Orchestra?

Garden Grove's Elementary Honor Orchestra is a group that is made up of very capable student musicians that audition to participate in this very special performance group. Each of these students is nominated to audition by their elementary instrumental music teacher. It is up to each student to practice the music so that he/she can successfully pass the audition. Only students who know all 4 pieces will be asked to perform.

Why?

Honor Orchestra provides an opportunity for students to perform with an exceptional orchestra made up about 100 of the best student musicians GGUSD has to offer. It's challenging, it's fun, it's a great opportunity to learn, and it's an honor to play with the best of the best.

Who can participate?

Teachers will audition students by February 10th. Only students who know all 4 pieces will be asked to perform.

How?

Your young musician will be loaned the musical pieces that will be played at the district Elementary Honor Orchestra concert so that he/she can practice and be ready for the audition, which will be conducted by your child’s music teacher sometime between January and February.

Honor Orchestra rehearsals will be on March 2nd and 3rd from 9 am - noon at the Donald R. Wash Memorial Auditorium. Permission slips to attend the rehearsals will accompany the acceptance letter. Transportation to the evening performance needs to be arranged by parents. Tickets for the evening performance ($2.00 donation for adults) will be available at the rehearsals or at Donald R. Wash Memorial Auditorium on the night of the performance.
