Course Description:
This course introduces students to the field of journalism. The school newspaper and yearbook are written, published, and distributed in this course. Attention is given to staff organization and duties, newspaper terminology, journalistic styles, conducting interviews, preparing news articles, and writing editorials.
Course Objectives:
Students will develop journalistic techniques and writing styles.
Students will learn to obtain facts, evaluate them carefully, and report them accurately.
Students will write, publish, and distribute the school newspaper and yearbook.
Students will communicate effectively with others.
Students will effectively collaborate in groups for discussions and group projects.
Students will utilize technology to express their ideas and compose their writing.
Students will demonstrate the proper use of English language conventions and mechanics that include spelling, punctuation, and grammar

Grading:
60% - Summative Assessments (Newspaper Articles, Yearbook Pages, Final Drafts, etc.)
40% - Formative Assessments (Classwork, Daily Participation, and Cooperation)
*Late work will not be accepted unless it is for an excused absence
