All students are required to earn two credits in Physical Education to meet graduation requirements. Students must be enrolled in a Physical Education class for a full year in grades 9–12.
The Glens Falls High School Physical Education curriculum is directly aligned with the New York State Learning Standards. Students will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of developmentally appropriate physical activities. The overall focus of the curriculum is to encourage students to understand the importance of living an active lifestyle, with an emphasis on developing the knowledge, skills, confidence, and motivation to engage in a lifelong, healthy, active lifestyle.
The curriculum features a mixture of activities, including aquatics, fitness, individual and team sports, dance, lifetime recreational activities, and cooperative games/challenges. The final grade is based on a daily class rubric (cardio-walk, warm-ups/stretching, application of rules and strategies, social responsibility and safety, unit activity engagement), unit authentic assessments, and daily class credit.
