A Hard battle fought at the Coulee Conference Meet puts the Boys 3rd and Girls 4th Overall. Seven All-Conference Awards!

GREAT RACING ON SATURDAY BY THE RED HAWKS!! They ran strong on a wet and hilly course and beat the odds turning in a 3rd place finish for the boys, four runners with All-Conference Honors, and 5 Personal Records. For the girls, they grabbed a very close 4th falling to Viroqua, three All-Conference Honors, 3 Personal Records and 2 season bests.

Red Hawks crushed the odds in scoring, placing, and All-Conference Awards.  When it came down to it they raced and chased as a team. We knew on the boy's side West Salem and Arcadia were strong - they were our moon shots. Westby was attainable  with a  17 point spread. Only two Red Hawk runners were predicted to be in the top 21 scoring positions. In the end, the boys caught and beat the Westby harriers by 8 points securing third place and brought two more runners on to the All-Conference podium. Celebrating Second Team All Conference Awards were Adrian Bautista(12th) and Xander Burmeister(14th). They were joined by runners Carter Giemza (18th) and Sawyer Smock (19th) who were awarded All-Conference Honorable mention. Rounding off the top seven was AJ Earney (28th), Liam Caya (29th), and Cavin Spitzmacher (37th).
On the Girls side,  - West Salem and Westby were strong contenders for first and second place, Viroqua was an immense barrier sitting at 33 points ahead of the Red Hawks girls in the standings. Key performances and grit by the Red Hawks put them within two points of 3rd place and brought three runners into the top 21 spots.  Predicted to have only one racer awarded All-Conference, Adrianna Rotering scoring 5th overall, was joined by Senior AJ Parker and Junior Anya Wolfe who  both destroyed expectations and personal times to place 10th and 18th. Following the top three was Bella Tibbitts placing 23rd and Reyna Garcia (25th), finishing out the top seven was Ellie Gold (32nd) and Jazzy Tarjeson (33rd).

Congratulations to the following athletes for achieving All-Conference Honors:

G-E-T Boys 3rd of 14 at Ettrick.

Mauston boys team place 3 in the top 7 runners Thursday to win the Red Hawk Invite at Ettrick Golf Course.  West Salem placed a close 2nd, and G-E-T 3rd behind 11th, 12th and 13th place finished by Sam Ruiter, Xander Burmeister and Oliver Marley. On the girls side West Salem placed all 5 runners in the top 16 to edge out CFC 41-45 points.  G-E-T girls were lead by Junior AJ Parker 13th overall.

Some comments -Mauston's Eli Boppart ran one of the fastest times I have seen on the course for the Red Hawk Meet. Beating BRF's Reid Jacoby's 16:32 mark. BUT Luther's David Vannucchi ran 15:50 here at the Conference meet in 2017 with Doug Feyen placing 2nd at 16:35. Doug holds the Red Hawk record for5k.  Xander and Oliver continue their awesome early seasons each setting Personal Records on the course. Olivers by over a minute. I wonder if the heat and "not liking our course"?? played mental games with a couple of our racers? On both sides I hope we get as many racers recovered from injury and illness and ready for Saturdays meet in Wausau!!!

Senior Bre Harris  had her best Sectional race ever, and maybe only her 21:24 6th place race in Conference in 2019 was better (course was likely short there). AJ Parker had a terrific Sectional meet in 2019  but  yesterdays was within 2 seconds of that time and PR of 22:19, she ran 22:21 for 41st place.  Senior Avali Bratberg saved her best races for last with an outstanding Conference race and perhaps equaling that at Sectionals breaking 23 minutes fr the 1st time at sectionals racing 22:44.

Coaches comments: It was impressive seeing some runners really step up, and the girls side Tauna and Bre raced really well! Boys side great efforts from our usual 4,5,6,7 guys. Collin was outstanding.  Xander, Lance and Oliver passing key Aquinas guys made a difference in the team win. Super PRS by Oliver, Liam and Halene!!! Girls scoring a low 41 score was really something. Is this the 1st time we had both programs win a meet a multiple team mean (more than 10) ? Could be.  Both team won sub sectionals.

Sensational sophomore Adrianna Rotering placed 2nd, Quinn, AJ and Delilah all broke 23 minutes in placing 5th, 6th, and 8th. Senior Tauna Janssen had her best race of the season and placed, 9th. Steady Seniors Breeann Harris, Hannah Siegler, and Avali Bratberg placed 10th, 11th and 12th.

Boys team lost a 6th man tie breaker to Mauston each scoring 51 points. G-E-T was once again led by the big 3, Sam Ruiter 4th, Carter Gold 6th, and Ethan Burmeister 9th. Brother Xander Burmeister had a nice bounce back race placing 14th, and Senior Lance Jumbeck rounded out the top 5 scoring by finishing 17th. G-E-T is off to Wausau this week for the Smiley Invitational this Saturday.

One goal I have is that runners improve each year. 7 of 9 boys improved over the same course in 2020.  Charlie -1.21 and Ethan G -59, improved most by time. 7 of 9 girls improved as well, with biggest improvement time wise by Amelia -1.15, and Adrianna -47.

What was impressive, Adrianna running down CFC girl, Xander bouncing back into #4 spot (can he keep it), Oliver's and Amelia's terrific wins in JV.  Quinns, AJ, and Tauna's impressive races. The best I have seen Tauna look in some time. Caleb's leap, Hammes impressive debut.  Both Ethans solid races (and how Bermie helped Carter/Sam). Watch out Quinn is moving up in JV!

Red Hawk Boys 1st Girls 2nd @ Jesse Brone Invite!!

Strong performances by Sophomore Adrianna  Rotering and Senior Sam Ruiter helped  push G-E-T Cross Country to a  2nd and 1st place performance at the Jesse Brone Invite in CFC. Carter Gold (9th), Ethan Burmeister (10th) , Lance Jumbeck (13th)  and Charlie Caya 17th rounded out the scoring.  Sam, Lance, and Charlie each had huge personal records. Ethan Gagnon placed in a varsity spot for the 1st time in his career.  Quinn Wenthe 14th, Delilah Boberg 16th, AJ Parker 19th, and Hannah Siegler 21st rounded out the scoring. Arianna rebounded nicely after struggling and not finishing the 1st race in West Salem, also Quinn rebounded nicely after having for her a subpar outing in West Salem.  It was a new personal record for Delilah.

Comments-G-E-T had many personal records and outstanding performances Thursday most notable -Senior Caleb Lightfoot (over 4 min), Sawyer Smock, Quinn O'Neil, Ellie Gold (over 5 min), and Amelia Doud .  Boys had 11 PRs and Girls 5.

G-E-T Boys 6th Girls 7th at Gale Johnson Meet

Getting strong performances from Junior Sam Ruiter and Senior Carter Gold the Red Hawk season kicked off in 2021 with placing 6 of 10  teams on a wet course in West Salem. Etahn Burmeister 30th, Colin Handke 37th,  and Xander Burmeister 42nd rounded out the scoring. G-E-T girls placed 7th of 10. AJ Parker led the way placing 26th, Hannah Siegler was 31st, frosh Delilah Boberg 34th, Breann Harris  39th,  and Avali Bratberg 46th to round out the scoring.

Some comments:  this field was stacked. We will not run a race with stronger overall fields than this one.-even Griak and Smiley. Literally every team was in top form. Early races really test summer fitness, and while some had a solid summer, we have a ways to go to catch up and we will! Racing early season means running on tired legs, the Bozov/200 run in heat impacted some of you but remember we are just getting going, you will be more rested later in season. For Adrianna to be in top 5 with 200m to go was amazing.

Loved that we had 11 new runners in the race, and 2 made varsity!!! Frosh Delilah Boberg was our number 4 runner placing 34th. Frosh Oliver Marley  moved to number 7 with his 57th place finish.

G-E-T LADIES BEST WIAA SECTIONAL TEAM FINISH SINCE 1992!

The G-E-T Women's team fresh off their Conference title moved up 3 places from 2018 and placed 4th Saturday at the WIAA Division 2 Sectional Meet in Colby. G-E-T Men were also 4th, after winning the meet in 2018. 14 teams make up the Sectional.  Breann Harris  and Carter Gold topped each team placing 22nd, and 25th. Running 2nd for each squad were Hannah Siegler (23rd) and Nick Moen (28th), 3rd (Quinn Wenthe (26th ) and Riley Kirkey (29th), 4th for each team was Rachel Amoth (28th) and Ethan Burmeister (33rd), rounding out top 5 scoring were Sam Ruiter (34th ) and Avali Bratberg (40th). 6th place per squad were Tauna Janssen (41st) and Ethan Burton (44th), 7th Hunter Andersen 46th and Claire Corcoran 86th.

Coaches comments: A big step forward for the ladies, moving up from 7th to 4th. What I have seen is the team come together from part-time racers to all time racers. We had meets (in my view) were as a team not all got out of comfort zones to push limits, what I see in last 2 meets that happening to all. While almost all of ladies had great races, Rachel stood out as an exceptional race and effort in the mud.

Men: We even though it didn't happen, a state birth, you battled and had some fine races.  Nick finished an outstanding Senior year as our number 2. Nice to see Riley hold down the 3 spot last two big meets, after being out of the pack early in season. You gained on West Salem from the 2-7 spots. Ethan (Burmie) , Sam , and Hunter, each had solid races, and stood out.

SUCCESS IN SALEM!

Set a goal and go get it! That is what the G-E-T ladies accomplished Saturday in West Salem at the Coulee Conference Meet. Oh was it mentioned yet that is was the FIRST TIME IN SCHOOL HISTORY the ladies program won the team title? Breann Harris had the race of a career placing 6th, (1st team All Coulee), Hannah Siegler 9th, Quinn Wenthe was 12th, Rachel Amoth 13th, and Avali Bratberg 14th, all 3 taking 2nd team all Coulee honors. Sophomore Tauna Jannsen placed 17th  taking Honorable Mention All Coulee honors.

The men placed 2nd for the 3rd year in a row. The 63 points scored Saturday was the lowest since 1998 (61), and the that team won. West Salem captured the team title with 45 points. Sophomore sensation Carter ran arguably his best race ever, placing 4th, earning 1st team All Coulee honors, and a personal record as well. Nick Moen 13th, Riley Kirkey 14th, both had their best conference races, and were 2nd team All Coulee. Ethan Burmeister 15th and Sam Ruiter 17th both has solid races to round out the scoring. BUT WAIT!Seniors Ethan Burton and Hunter Andersen had career races placing 22nd and 27th.

2019 Cross Country G-E-T Ladies

Comments Ladies side: Behind a great team performance there are individuals. Looking at 2 statistics improvement since 1st race on same course in August and improvement over previous PR's you had staggering numbers: Lucy -46, Breann -37, Hannah -34, Quinn -23, Avali -18. Looking at improvement on same course: -2:39 Lucy, -1:30 Breann, -1:09 Hannah, -1:08 Autumn, and -1:02 Claire..everyone else had over -50. Amazing improvement! 8 pr's of 11 racing with 2 others getting seasonal bests. Breann pretty much went out fast and said I am going to put this Conference Champ on my back. I don't ever remember a meet when a #3 moved to #1 and almost won it herself! 6 All Conference OMG. (G stand for Gosh)

Comments for Guys Team: 13 personal records of 17 racing with 2 others seasonal bests.

SENIORS RULE- The competition was tough but all Seniors had big days. SO happy to see Nick going out aggressively with Carter and having his best conference race. .-Blake gave a huddle warning, and Ethan Burton had his biggest day in CC, I know it won't count as a PR but this race was huge for him being #6, -11 Hunter PR and earning a #7 spot. -46 PR for Matt (so close Matt to going under 19, I am sure even you didn't dream that might happen!), Zack didn't get a PR missed by 2 BUT this was HIS best RACE ever in CC, he fought hard!

Best race of year for Riley racing well in the 3 sport. Burmie and Sam close to PR's and solid races.

JV HUGE IMPROVEMENTS

Besting previous PR's -1:00 Collin Handke, -46 Josh,  -44 Charlie, -30 Cameron, -29 Ethan G, -19 Carter, -15 Elias. Charlie was -2:11, Collin was almost 2:00 faster than in August!, -1:55 for Cameron, -1:40 Matt, -1:39 Gags, -1:38 Elias, -46 Riley, Josh and Burton, -44 Lance, -21 Zack, -19 Carter, -16 Hunter, -10 Ethan Bur., -6 Sam and Nick.

RED HAWK HARRIERS WARM TO NORDIC CHILL IN ARCADIA!

They changed the course to 3200, the weather changed, even the teams were changed...but G-E-T racers gave a determined strong effort in challenging conditions. The men were led by Senior Hunter Andersen 37th 0f 178 in the race, and the ladies were led by Lucy Jumbeck 60th of 143 racers. The men were 11th of 18 teams.

Nightfall Classic 10-4-19  WI Dells (in the dark!)

24 count that 24 seasonal best races, 15 personal records! Red Hawk harriers crushed it in the dark at at Spring Brook golf course in Wisconsin Dells. Every female racer had a seasonal best as Hannah Siegler led the very balanced girls team to a 4th place D2 finish. There were 16 teams. Just 37 seconds separated the top runner from the number 6.  Hannah was 22nd, Quinn Wenthe 24th,  Bree Harris 25th, Rachel Amoth 31st,  Avali  Bratberg 35th,  Tauna Jannsen 36th,  and frosh Alexis Walker slipped into top 7 and was 64th.

G-E-T boys placed 6th of 16 teams. Steady and consistent sophomore Carter Gold was again the top Red Hawk racer (as he has been every race) completing the 5k course in an outstanding 17:48 placing 21st. Next for the team was Ethan Burmeister in 29th place, Nicholas Moen 30th, Sam Ruiter 31st , Riley Kirkey 42nd, Lance Jumbeck 52nd, and Senior Ethan Burton placed 56th.

As a team the ladies really showed an impressive pack and depth, Hannah has a personal record and strong race, but if you are looking for that one racer on that side  who standouts out more than others as clearly having the best race, you can not find one, because almost ALL did!. All girls had season bests and the course was about 20-30 seconds long. Seasonal bests improvement went from 16 seconds to 1:26 for Lucy Jumbeck. Hannah, Avali, Tauna, Alexis, Autumn, and Lucy all had PR's. Girls team jumped from 9th in 2018 to 4th. You ladies at surpassing expectations and flying towards team goals!

On the guy side, Lance Jumbeck stood out, under 19 for 1st time, and he improved  36 seconds from his previous best and moved into the number 6 spot. Cameron Schuh also had a PR and improved 1:25 over his season best time. For 9 of top 10 racers  all had seasonal best races and the performances went from outstanding to solid. Matt Siegler broke 20 for the 1st time in his career. Frosh Charlie Caya, and Ethan Gagnon each has over a minute improvement from their previous seasonal best time, with Elias close. Nicholas, Sam, Lance, Lars, Matt, Cameron, Elias, Charlie, and Ethan G, all PR'ed.  It was a very good race for the varsity and shows that the team is headed on course to the goals we have set!

Coaching Comments Smiley

Girls raced very well as a team. Close as a pack. The 2500 mark we went from map. So 1st time was about :30 too soon. Overall strong 2500 to final 2500 meters. Close to even. A couple runners went out too fast and paid for it in 2nd ½ of race. Esp strong races for Autumn, Alexis, Hannah (over 10% improvement from last race) and Tauna, Claire and Rachel each 5-6% improvement.  Beating a conference school who got us before was awesome.

Boys being 8th I think is under what our expectations were. But only 2 runners of 7 in varsity had run varsity at this meet a year ago. Did you run smart? Two frosh had especially fast 2nd ½ races Sam and Collin. Collin had a big day and made varsity for Griak! Biggest improvement over previous race was Charlie, and Ethan G both over 10%, Collin 9%, Elias 7, Sam 6, followed by Burton and Lance. All solid races. With a morning start we need to look at food choices/lack of and learn from that. Glad you got big meet experience. I suspect you had tired legs. I think the fact that some could not hold pace well the 2nd half showed that.

DANA FEYEN ENDS 4 YEARS AT STATE WITH 2ND PLACE FINISH!

414, 470, 547, over 550 that represents mile totals over her four 3 month seasons, in all kinds of weather. Amazing dedication and unheard of drive. State represents her last CC meet connected to G-E-T, she will compete in Nike regionals in 2 weeks. 2,1,1,2 represents place finishes in state meet competition. People know Dana for her amazing performances they do not see all the things she does to be where she is, strength training, nutrition, foam rollering, stretching, stress management. She has NO lost training time in 4 years to injury or illness which is in itself remarkable. It has been a growth experience for me as a coach to coach such a talent and it has been enjoyable. Dana ran 18:19 (her fastest state time).

CC Banquet 2018

Jumbeck and Gold lead boys 13th place finish at State!

Senior Josh Jumbeck ended his 4 years as a Red Hawk with his BEST performance. In his 3rd consecutive state meet Josh set the tempo by placing 29th, he passed 8 int the last mile.  Josh has had he kind of season he has worked hard to achieve! Frosh Carter Gold set a personal record by 45 seconds and was our 3rd best runner Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids. Carter started smart and passed 14 in the 2nd mile and 10 more in mile 3 for 90th place. Although Doug had a faster time as a frosh (17:42) it was on a short course. So Carter had the best time on a tough course of any frosh in history.  Doug Feyen placed 86th in 17:46. Blake 120th in 18:17, Riley 140th, Jake 142nd and Ethan Burmeister 146th.

on to state!!!!!!!!!!

In the most brutal conditions I have seen in my years around Cross Country, 32 degrees, 25mph winds on a wide open, snow covered, muddy course G-E-T won Sectionals in Colby, edging out LaCrosse Logan. G-E-T will compete in the State meet on Saturday! Dana Feyen cruised to victory for her 4th straight Sectional victory and also qualified.

Doug Feyen placed 2nd, Josh Jumbeck 5th, Blake Johnson 18th, Carter Gold 19th, Riley Kirkey 21st, Ethan Burmeister 40th,  Jake Jumbeck 55th. This is a team pulling it together after a list of injuries and illnesses.

G-E-T girls place 7th and when considering lower team score it was the best race at Sectionals since the 1992 state team. (2008 team had 7th place but with over 200 points).  1st  Dana Feyen , 34st Breeann Harris , 46nd Rachel Amoth, 53rd Hannah Seigler,  60th Amalie Salamonsen, 69th Claire Corcoran, 80th Quinn Wenthe . Bree's place was the highest a G-E-T girl has placed not named Feyen since 2009.

2 weeks after being diagnosed with mono Riley Kirkey  was back running. Today he was our number 5 runner, helping us win Sectionals and now we are going to state. It was a remarkable recovery for a very courageous and determined young man. BTW we wouldn't have run him without medical clearance.

G-E-T Runners take 2 seconds at Ettrick in the Coulee Conference Meet!

Red Hawk girls team tied a history best 2nd place Saturday with tough competitive races on a dewy grass, cool, Cross Country at it's best morning. Dana Feyen won by nearly 2 and a half minutes to capture her 4th straight Coulee title. Dana joins LaCrescent's Stacey Johnson as the only 4 time winner of the Coulee, her margin of victory was the largest in history on either side boys or girls, 2 minutes and 35 seconds (although this is only the 5th years girls have been at 5k and they were at 3200 before 1993.) Dana's 18:03  was also the fastest time in history of Coulee.  69 points was our lowest total since 1992!  Frosh Quinn Wenthe was the best G-E-T runner at Coulee (not named Dana) since Nicole Walski, who also 10th way back in 2009. Fellow frosh Bree Harris 12th, joined Quinn earning 2nd team All Coulee Honors. Another Freshman Hannah Siegler earned Honorable Mention All Coulee mention placing 16th. Rachel Amoth 30th, and Claire Corcoran had THE best race in her 2 year Cross Country career placed 34th to round out the top 5 scoring. Viroqua won the meet.

Seniors Doug Feyen and Josh Jumbeck had great races (as usual) and placed 1st team all Coulee in 2nd and 4th. These two have been racing at such a high level all season they ended their Coulee careers with their best races! Doug's time (16:35)  is one of the best in the history of the Coulee. Frosh Carter Gold broke into the All Coulee Honors placing 20th. Frosh Ethan Burmeister 22nd, and "are you kidding me"  Riley Kirkey who was just cleared medically from being diagnosed with mono placed 23rd. Onalaska Luther won the meet.

Boys were 4th of 14 teams at Nightfall Classic in Wisconsin Dells. Doug broke his school record by 29 seconds and placed 1st of 214 runners. Blake Johnson placed 13th, Jake Jumbeck 28th, Ethan Burmeister 30th, and Ethan Burton 40th to round out the scoring. More on Boys Race

The girls placed 9th. Rachel Amoth was 29th, Bree Harris 30th, Hannah Siegler 35th, Amalie Salamonsen 49th and Jaida Harshman 58th.

Dana Feyen competed with the top runners in the nation at the Griak Invitational held Saturday in Minneapolis. Dana placed 8th of over 400 runners in the elite Gold Division.

TWINS LEAD REDHAWKS AT SMILEY! BOYS 2ND OF 16!

Course Record Holder and New School Record Holder and First Time Winner.
