A planning guide by Get Out! Events.
A seminar is a learning event. People come to listen, take notes, ask questions and leave with something they can use at work on Monday. That makes it very different from a conference with parallel tracks or an exhibition with a busy show floor. At a seminar, the whole day rises or falls on whether the audience can hear, see, concentrate and stay comfortable.
Marina Bay Sands is an obvious name on the shortlist when teams search for an MBS event space in the city centre. It combines hotel ballrooms with the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, sits beside Bayfront MRT station and gives out-of-town speakers an easy address to find. This guide focuses on running a half-day or full-day seminar event there, not on the wider range of MBS convention centre events.
Half day: suits a single theme, a product briefing for partners or a compliance update. One break, one block of Q&A and a firm finish.
Full day: suits a training programme or a multi-speaker seminar. You will need a lunch plan, more than one break and a way to keep energy up in the afternoon.
Settle the learning goal first: what should attendees know or be able to do when they leave? That answer tells you how many speakers you need, whether people will write or work in groups, and which room layout suits them. Room set-up, audio and breaks then follow naturally.
Room Set-Up compares seating layouts for listening and note-taking. Speakers and Q&A covers presenter preparation and audience microphones. Breaks and Flow shows how to pace a seminar so the last session lands as well as the first.
If you would like one team to coordinate the venue, AV and on-site running, Get Out! Events outlines its approach on its Seminar at Marina Bay Sands page.
