The space question comes before almost everything else. A lion dance in a reception lobby is a very different job from one that winds through several office floors, and both depend on what your landlord or venue will permit.
Pick the area where the lion will perform and walk it with a phone camera. Look for the following:
Ceiling height, hanging lights, signage and anything the lion's head could catch.
Floor surface, rugs, cables and finishes that could be scratched or slippery.
Columns, glass partitions and fragile displays near the performance line.
Turning points where the troupe changes direction and staff tend to bunch up.
Share accurate measurements and photographs with your planner and the troupe instead of assuming a meeting room or pantry will be big enough.
Never let the audience stand across lift lobbies, corridors or emergency exits. Move décor bases, refreshment tables and bags out of the way before the troupe arrives, and keep a path open for performers and the operations team.
Office towers and corporate venues in Singapore often want advance notice for performances, amplified sound and visitor access. Typical items to confirm include:
Loading bay slots and drop-off arrangements for the troupe and equipment.
Lift bookings and security registration for performers.
The access window and any protection needed for shared flooring.
Whether common areas such as the lobby can be used at all.
Name one person who owns these approvals and get answers in writing. Verbal assurances tend to fall apart on the morning itself. Always check current requirements with the building or venue, since rules differ between properties.
