A planning guide by Get Out! Events.
A company Chinese New Year dinner is more than a restaurant booking. Many teams think of it as a company reunion dinner: a shared table where colleagues reconnect, leaders say thank you and the new year starts on a warm note. When food, speeches and festive traditions work together, guests remember the evening. When they compete, guests remember the queue and the noise.
This guide is about the dinner itself, not the wider season of office decorations, games or client visits. It walks through the decisions that make the meal and the programme fit together, from the purpose of the gathering to the moment guests leave.
Ask why the company is gathering. It might be to thank employees, bring regional colleagues together, host clients or open the year with a message from leadership. Choose one main purpose and no more than two supporting aims. Every stakeholder will want a segment; a clear purpose is how you decide which ones earn a place.
Put the outcome into one or two sentences, for example: guests feel appreciated, spend real time with colleagues and leave optimistic about the year ahead. Then test every proposed speech, performance and dining choice against it. If an item does not help, it probably does not belong in the run sheet.
Dining Format compares banquet, buffet and reception styles. Speeches and Lo Hei covers the programme on the night. Run Sheet brings it together with seating, contingencies and a debrief.
