(not Gervais-specific PD)
There is A LOT to spf.io, and given time, we may leverage many of those tools. However, our initial use of this tool is to provide our Newcomer students with a way to have whole-class instruction from their teachers translated, in real-time, directly onto their Chromebooks in either Spanish, Russian, or Ukrainian. For this tool to be effective, teachers should wear a lapel microphone and students should have a charged Chromebook.
ELD teachers: your role is to understand this well enough to teach the Newcomers how to set up a spf.io session for themselves.
Content Teachers: your role is to set up a session. My hope is that as soon as you understand the steps, it will not require much of you and will take very little time at the start of your class period. I am always available if you have any questions or would like individual PD.
Teacher Step 1: Create a Session
Teacher Step 2: Share Link w/ Students
Teacher Step 3: Quickly Set Up Your Session
Teacher Reminders:
Wear your mic during whole-class instruction. Remove it when you do not want your conversation translated to the student's Chromebook.
For 1:1 discussions with students, use their PocketTalk device.
Once you get comfortable with the steps, it should take you less than a minute to start a session for each class.
