The most important reason to write a small paragraph on assessment and evaluation is that the results on examinations must show that PBL courses produce competent health workers and that these courses are appropriate and effective to get these results. If responsible people like to introduce PBL they also have the responsibility to convince others that this introduction is worthwhile and promising.
Therefore we will discuss some of the most appropriate assessment formats for PBL and we formulate the most important questions for the evaluation of these courses to enable responsible faculty to develop a well balanced and cost/effective course.
