My learning perspective evaluation:
How to build a honeypot is a great how-to site to utilize for my e-learning everywhere assignment because it offers step by step guidance on setting up honeypots, making the learning process accessible and pratical for everyone. Honeypots are a vital tool to cybersecurity as they attract and monitor malicious activity creating essential information to build a defense against real world cybercriminals.
Learners who are seeking to gain knowledge of how to build honeypots are given an in dept guided tutorial upon accessing the site. It starts with an introduction of what a honeypot is followed by other various subtopics about how to use it, what the pros & cons of use are, and how to choose a specific type. Learners are not overwhelmed by information since the topics are written without excessive wordiness. Making it so that learners can understand briefly what they are about to create. The creator of this how to included images and videos to help learners follow along as well. This is very useful to those who are more visual learners like myself.
The creator uses a constructivism learning theory approach with a push on applying hands on learning for a more real world experience. Like in the excerpt from Ertmer & Newbly (2013) it is one thing to acquire knowledge but to create it first hand generates a new learning perspective. I also noticed that the creator did not use any authoring technology. The audience attracted is everyone who has an interest in cybersecurity, networking and anything cyber technology related. This is a helpful learning resource for learners who are looking for a way to gain practical experience and knowledge on how to build honeypots as well as how to understand the need and use for them. It also aids learners with basics to build on if they are just getting started or trying to advance in their careers or studies.
Overall the expected outcomes I can see learners getting are not only going to build on their knowledge and experience but will also create awareness as the creator not only educates the learner on what a honeypot is and how to build one but they go back in at the end to elaborate on how to detect one and what to look for at the end to access that you built the honeypot correctly. And if not it told you what vulnerabilities to look for from a threat's perspective.
In summary, this how to gave a how to tutorial in a cyber sandwich of basically everything a learner who is interested in the topic needs to get a brief but thorough crash course on honeypots from beginning to end and a lesson on how to build one all practically from where the learners access the site from.
