I have been a science teacher for 13 years. During my time as a science teacher, I have taught in two school districts, three schools, and over 10 different science courses at all levels from remedial to AP. I have most experience in teaching biology, anatomy & physiology, and chemistry.
I am the proud father of two girls and a boy. I enjoy reading Stephen King novels, jigsaw puzzles, video games, board games, and vacationing at the beach with my family.
This course is designed for science teachers to explore thematic teaching as a way to make learning relevant to your students. The course will take you through 5 modules where you will explore what thematic teaching is, examine some online tools and resources, engage in discussions with your peers, and develop a lesson with thematic teaching in mind. You will take what you have learned throughout this course to develop your first thematic unit.

Padlet & Flip Discussion Forums (25%): You will engage in weekly discussion forums where you will discuss your understanding of thematic teaching, your progress, collaborate, and share your work with your peers.
Case Study Evaluation (15%): You will evaluate an existing case study and explore ways in which you can modify the case study to incorporate its theme into an existing content standard for your course.
PhET/HHMI Lesson Evaluation (15%): You will evaluate an existing online video or virtual lab that ties into your theme. You will provide an analysis of the pros and cons of your selection. You will then share a lesson plan that incorporates your selection and ties into your selected theme and content standards.
