Felix G. Hamza-Lup Professor Computer Science Georgia Southern University
Felix’s research sits at the forefront of HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) and Artificial Intelligence, driving innovation in human cognition enhancement, haptic systems and robotics, augmented and mixed reality, and highly immersive 3D web-based simulation environments. His work advances the science of human–machine collaboration by developing systems that not only replicate real-world complexity but also deepen experiential learning and decision-making in critical domains. Complementing this focus, Felix investigates emerging technologies, including distributed ledger technology, ubiquitous computing, distributed sensor networks, and cryptography, to create secure, scalable, and decentralized infrastructures that support next-generation intelligent systems.
His interdisciplinary portfolio includes pioneering multi-modal training and simulation platforms for medical education, with specialized applications in laparoscopic surgery, adaptive neural network–based learning systems, and advanced energy management simulations leveraging blockchain-based technology. These projects collectively reflect his mission to translate high-impact research into practical, globally relevant solutions.
Felix is a two-time Fulbright Fellow recognized for research excellence, and his work has been supported by major organizations such as NASA, the MD Anderson Cancer Foundation, and the National Science Foundation. He has served as principal investigator on multiple NSF and SBIR grants, founded the Creative Coast winning startup 3DRTT, and received the Learning for Life Service Award in 2009 and 2011. He is an active member of the ACM and IEEE organizations.
