I would like to be part of the School Council because I truly believe education is one of the most powerful ways to connect people and build stronger communities.
As a biologist and a musician, I bring both a scientific and creative perspective. I understand the importance of structure, learning, and development, but also the value of expression, connection, and emotional support in a student’s life.
As a parent of a 9th grader, I care deeply about creating an environment where students feel supported, challenged, and included. I believe that when families, educators, and the community work together, we create better opportunities for every student to succeed.
I would be honored to contribute, listen, and help strengthen that connection within the school.
My name is Amy Vashlishan Murray and I’m the Mom of Jackson Murray who will be entering grade 9 at GMHS and Cora Murray who will be entering grade 3 at Penn Brook
I became involved in the School Council when my son Jackson started at GMHS in 7th grade. I’ve liked having this as a way continue involvement at a new phase for him after being a room parent all through his time at Penn Brook. I’m running to continue for a 3rd year in the GMHS school council as my son starts at the High School.
For me the School Council been a way of learning more about how things work at the school. I’ve learned about the School Improvement Plans that school admin develops as a way to advance different priorities for student, staff, academic and community life. I think I’ve been able to offer a useful perspective as both a parent and someone who works in higher ed as an educator in a part-admin role involved in curriculum development and faculty support.
It's also been a way to have productively channel my concerns about enrollment issues and what I think has ultimately been low community awareness about the amazing resources and curricular and co-curricular opportunities that GMHS has to offer.
I’m interested in continuing this work as we welcome new school leadership with a hope that the new principal will use this Council as the resource it could be for taking input and providing feedback, rather than as an obligatory box to check and report out to one-directionally.
And, I’m hoping to help bridge the work of the School Council with the rest of the school community. I think the goal of these councils should be to outlive their own necessity in the sense that we all have access to the information and a voice in providing input.
I'd like to join to build on the momentum built by families over the past year in town. Families want transparency and communication, and I'd like to join the school council to provide that where I can. My goal is to be a voice and advocate for parents in this area, as well as other areas of concern as they're brought up, including supporting the programs in place and bringing community feedback on course offerings.

As a parent in the Georgetown community, I would love the opportunity to continue being involved in supporting the school, students, and staff. I previously had the privilege of serving on a School Council for two years, and I truly enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to collaborate with school leadership and fellow parents.
I value communication, teamwork, and creating a positive learning environment for all students. I would also welcome the opportunity to help support and fulfill the vision outlined in the district's five-year plan and contribute thoughtfully to the continued growth and success of our schools.
One area that is especially important to me is helping ensure that our schools remain strong, innovative, and appealing to current and prospective families. I believe that maintaining high-quality educational opportunities, student experiences, and community engagement is essential to encouraging families to remain in the district and attracting new families to Georgetown.
I believe in collaboration with school administration and staff at the students best interest. I think its crucial for parental and caregivers to be a part of childrens education experience and believe I can advocate on behalf of parents/caregivers who do not have the time to sit on boards. I have an educational and work experience background as a social worker, therapist and have a deep understanding for child development. With four children who will grow up in this school district I am invested in continuing to improve the environment, community and experience for all students and families. I believe we could improve in transparency and communication to foster a deeper connection between the school and families.
As an economist I am primarily interested in measuring outcomes. In particular, I am interested in how our students perform academically and if we achieve the goals articulated in the school improvement plan. Understanding whether we are successful in achieving those goals requires proper data and interpretation. My goal is to continue to be the voice that asks for this data and through that help our school to perform better in the future.
