5. My early publications directly addressed the heterogeneity of synaptic GABAa and glutamate receptor channels. At the time of discovery of many genes encoding the subunit for these receptors my laboratory gave substantial contributions to define the biophysical and pharmacologic properties and trafficking of receptor subtypes expressed at different locations in the CNS. These publications are a reference and a guide for the role of receptors heterogeneity in neurological and psychiatric disorders. This body of work has changed the standards for the approach to study ligand gated channels and will continue to provide guide well into the future.
