Undergraduate Research Assistant
Sanjay Modak is an undergraduate research assistant in the Tercyak Lab. He is a rising junior at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University majoring in Public Health. In the lab, Sanjay looks forward to contributing to projects that examine cancer prevention, patient behavior, and the translation of research into meaningful health outcomes.
Sanjay’s interest in oncology is shaped by personal experiences with cancer in his family, which highlighted the life-extending impact of clinical trials and immunotherapy. His prior work has focused on population and community-based interventions, including studying COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among healthcare workers and supporting global health initiatives addressing malnutrition in Malawi. He has also conducted antimicrobial research in the Columbia University Department of Surgery.
Sanjay is interested in oncology and preventive medicine and plans to pursue a career in medicine.
