Undergraduate Research Assistant
Omar is a senior at Georgetown University majoring in Biology of Global Health. He joined the Tercyak Lab to pursue his academic and career interests in preventive and palliative approaches to cancer, particularly among vulnerable populations.
In the lab, Omar has contributed to several projects focused on skin cancer prevention in rural communities across the life course. His research includes investigating sun safety behaviors among rural youth through the RAYS study, as well as examining how minor depression in pregnant women affects adherence to sun safety practices for both themselves and their babies. This summer, he will research how sociodemographic factors influence attitudes and behaviors related to skin cancer prevention among rural adolescents in Utah. Outside the lab, Omar serves as an EMT, volunteers with Crisis Text Line, and leads Georgetown’s HoyaTHON as President, raising funds for pediatric cancer care in partnership with Children’s National Hospital. He plans to attend medical school with interests in oncology and preventive medicine.
