Marcelo Sleiman Jr is the Program Manager of the Interventions for Managing Parenting and Cancer Team (IMPACT) at Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. His leadership of this initiative, which focuses on addressing the comprehensive care needs of parents with cancer and their children, seeks to improve quality of life through one-on-one and small group support, patient navigation, and access to community-based resources at local and national levels. Mr. Sleiman also leads the implementation and evaluation of IMPACT across MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital Center, with clinicians from palliative care, child and adolescent psychiatry, and behavioral health.
His research interests include lifestyle-based cancer prevention, the roles of race, ethnicity, and culture in health, and engagement and service to the community. Mr. Sleiman oversees all projects within the Health Behavior and Cancer Prevention Lab, and manages the research staff. Since joining Georgetown, Mr. Sleiman has been a productive member of the research team, contributing to numerous manuscripts and presentations, delivering his research at national conferences including the American Association for Cancer Research, Society for Behavioral Medicine, and Pediatric Academic Societies. Key themes that he has studied include youth tobacco control, HPV vaccine prevalence and hesitancy, psychosocial outcomes of breast/ovarian cancer survivorship, and the integration of novel cancer screening paradigms into clinical and public health practice.
Mr. Sleiman graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor's Degree in Biostatistics and a minor in Psychology. He plans to attend medical school in the future.
