Approximately 1.4 million people in the United States work in the real estate industry. Considered a challenging but rewarding field, this field is often subject to the ups and downs of the economy. Real estate offers plenty of job opportunities, and for those who want to build a career, the long-term prospects are good. Working in real estate means buying, selling, or leasing commercial and residential properties ranging from apartments and houses to office space and buildings as well as appraisals and property management.

Success Factors

•      Familiarize yourself with the industry through research and informational interviews 

•      Financial modeling skills are a huge advantage, particularly in real estate investment banking 

•      Become proficient with ARGUS, a software application that is the industry standard for cash flow projection, asset valuation, and transaction analysis 

•      In particular, entry into real estate development and investment management will require significant networking and use of MSB real estate resources, including alumni, faculty, and the student real estate organization.
