Richard Brown is an independent consultant with over 30 years of experience working as a corporate CSR executive. His most recent position was the Vice President of Philanthropy at American Express where he oversaw the company’s global giving programs, which included the company’s signature programs: the Partners in Preservation programs with the National Trust for Historic Preservation; the World Monument Fund’s biennial Watch program; the multi-partner and global American Express Leadership Academy; the Academy Global Alumni Network and Summit with Atlas Service Corps; and the Coalition to Back Black Businesses initiative with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
Additionally, Mr. Brown was a key presenter of the first-ever White House Forum on Nonprofit Leadership and played a leading role in the development of Leaderosity.com, Acumenacademy.org and Leaderstories.org -- on-line leadership development portals for social purpose leaders.
Previously the Corporate Secretary of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, Mr. Brown has also held leadership positions in corporate CSR at AT&T Wireless, the Toys R Us Children’s Fund, the Texaco Foundation and Altria.
Mr. Brown currently serves the vice-chairman of the board of the Education and Research Foundation of the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York and a trustee of the Lincoln Fund -- a Foundation that supports educational programs in New York City. A graduate of Syracuse University, Mr. Brown has an MS Degree in Organizational Change Management from The Milano Graduate School at the New School University in New York.
