When beginning to conduct informational interviews, start with second-year full-time MBA students who interned with the firm or students who have work experience at the firm, then first/second-year associates, then managers/senior managers and finally partners and managing directors. You will gradually build firm and industry knowledge and will be positioned to make the strongest impression on senior decision makers at the firm.
Join the Georgetown Hospitality and Lodging Club , a student-led club that organizes activities related to Hospitality and career-focused clubs that cover the functional areas that you are most interested in such as the Finance Club and the Technology Club.
Participate in the Georgetown Hospitality and Lodging Club Career Treks, which are student site visits to employer workplaces. The Career Treks offer a unique supplement to the traditional on-campus information session, allowing you to directly experience an employer’s workplace culture and interface with key executives. National MBA Career Fairs offer an excellent opportunity to interact and interview with firms and practice areas that do not formally recruit at Georgetown. The MBA Career Center provides detailed information each year on the National MBA Career Fairs and also hosts a Career Fair Bootcamp each Fall.
To be successful, upfront preparation is required to include:
Registering up to 6 weeks in advance
Applying for positions on the conference websites at least 4 weeks before the conference. (Firms post positions in the registered attendee section and often make interview selections before the conference).
Preparing updated resumes and targeted cover letter for application submissions
Practicing both behavioral interviews and case interviews (as applicable)
Researching companies, competitors, industry trends, company products and services, etc.
